Supported Import Formats
78 3D file formats are parsed and rendered. Click a row to open the dedicated viewer page when one exists.
| Format | Extension | Category | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7-Zip Archive | .7z | archive | |
| Email Message | .msg, .eml | archive | Email messages saved from Outlook (.msg) or any other mail app (.eml), opened like an archive of their attachments: an attached 3D model or CAD file opens first, then an attached zip or forwarded message, then a document. The file picker lists every attachment and the message itself, which shows as a page with its header, body and inline pictures, without scripts or anything from the internet. |
| RAR Archive | .rar | archive | |
| SketchUp LayOut | .layout | archive | A SketchUp LayOut page-layout document (.layout). The viewer extracts the embedded SketchUp model and renders it. |
| TAR / Compressed Archive | .tar, .tgz, .tbz2, .tbz, .txz, .gz, .bz2, .xz | archive | |
| Zipped Model | .zip | archive | A model file zipped for email or download (e.g. OBJ + MTL). The viewer opens the archive and loads the model inside. |
| 3D XML (Dassault) | .3dxml | cad | Dassault 3D XML packages (.3dxml): the product structure with every assembly, sub-assembly and placed part, drawn from the tessellated faces and edges of the XML shape files in their saved colours and applied material colours, in millimetres, and the binary CGR tessellation that 2005-2006 CATIA V5 packages carry. Shapes stored in Dassault’s newer binary representation are counted and left out. |
| Autodesk Fusion | .f3d, .f3z | cad | Autodesk Fusion designs (.f3d, and the root design of a .f3z), drawn from the display mesh Fusion saves inside the design: every body placed by its component occurrences, with hidden occurrences on a layer that starts switched off, in centimetres. Designs saved without that mesh open to a notice with their own thumbnail. |
| Autodesk Inventor | .ipt, .iam | cad | Autodesk Inventor parts and assemblies (.ipt / .iam), drawn from the display mesh Inventor saves inside the document: every face of every body in its colour, and in an assembly every occurrence placed where the assembly has it, in centimetres, the right way up. Parts with no bodies and assemblies saved without their display cache open to a notice with their own thumbnail. |
| Autodesk Navisworks | .nwd, .nwc | cad | Autodesk Navisworks published models and model caches (.nwd / .nwc): every placed part drawn from the tessellated shapes Navisworks stores, at its saved position, in its material colour, with grid and centre lines as lines. Shapes used many times are decoded once. A project file (.nwf) names the models it links. |
| Autodesk Revit | .rvt, .rfa, .rft | cad | Native Revit projects and loadable families (Revit 2012 and later). The element database is read directly and the model is rebuilt from Revit’s own computed solids: walls with their joins and door/window openings cut, floors, roofs, ceilings, stairs, railings, columns, structural framing, and placed family instances (each rebuilt from its family symbol and placement), grouped into per-category layers. A .rfa opens as the component itself, about its own origin. Curved surfaces fall back to parametric reconstruction where possible; a Revit file stores no mesh geometry at all, so anything beyond these types still renders best from an IFC export. |
| Graphisoft Archicad | .pln, .pla | cad | Archicad PLN projects and PLA archives, read locally in the browser. Tested with Archicad 25, 27 and 29. Renders supported walls with door and window openings cut through them, slabs, pitched roofs, zones, beams, columns, morphs, meshes and terrain, and extracts the saved project preview. |
| IFC (Building) | .ifc | cad | IFC building information models (BIM): walls, slabs, windows, doors, and MEP, grouped into per-type layers. Tessellated via web-ifc. |
| IGES | .iges, .igs | cad | IGES/IGS neutral CAD surfaces and B-rep solids (NURBS), tessellated via OpenCASCADE. |
| JT | .jt | cad | JT files (ISO 14306), and Siemens NX parts (.prt) through the JT display data NX saves inside them: the product structure with every assembly, sub-assembly and placed part, drawn from the most detailed tessellation of each shape in its saved colour and at its saved position, in the file’s units. JT 8, 9 and 10 files open; a multi-file JT assembly places the part files that come with it. |
| Parasolid | .x_t, .x_b, .xmt_txt, .xmt_bin | cad | Parasolid transmit files (.x_t / .x_b, .xmt_txt / .xmt_bin): the exact kernel B-rep, in both the text and binary encodings. |
| PTC Creo View | .pvz, .pvs, .ol | cad | PTC Creo View packages (.pvz) and their parts (.ol): the product structure with every assembly, sub-assembly and placed part, drawn from the tessellated faces and edges Creo and Windchill publish, in their saved colours and transparency, in metres. A .pvs structure file opens with its .ol shape files. |
| Remplanner floor plan | .plan | cad | Remplanner flat plans (.plan, the JSON save and the zipped Plan 3.0 save): every wall at its saved height with mitred corners and its door, doorway and window openings cut through it, each room’s floor on a layer named with its area, ceilings on a layer that starts hidden, and furniture and fittings as boxes at their saved size, in centimetres. |
| Rhino 3D Model | .3dm | cad | Rhinoceros NURBS-based CAD models (BReps, SubD, polysurfaces, mesh). |
| SketchUp Model | .skp, .skb | cad | SketchUp 3D models with faces, components, layers, and materials, and the .skb backups SketchUp saves beside them. |
| Solid Edge | .par, .psm, .dft | cad | Solid Edge parts and sheet metal (.par / .psm), rendered from the Parasolid B-rep the document embeds, assemblies (.asm) put together from the part files opened with them, and drafts (.dft), drawn sheet by sheet. |
| Solid Edge Viewer | .sev | cad | Solid Edge Viewer documents (.sev): the display model Solid Edge saves for its viewer, with every part of an assembly in place and in its saved colour, in millimetres. |
| SolidWorks | .slddrw, .sldprt, .sldasm | cad | SolidWorks parts, assemblies and drawings. A part or assembly (.sldprt, .sldasm) renders as real 3D geometry: the display mesh SolidWorks itself draws, saved in the file as triangle strips per face and decoded here in meters with smooth normals — an assembly arrives already assembled. A drawing (.slddrw) opens as the full-resolution sheet image saved in the file, every view, dimension and title-block field legible, with a picker for each sheet. Documents that embed no geometry (external-component assemblies, by-reference saves) get a plain notice pointing at STEP. |
| SolidWorks eDrawings | .eprt, .easm, .edrw, .hsf | cad | SolidWorks eDrawings parts, assemblies and drawings (.eprt / .easm / .edrw), drawn from the HOOPS stream (HSF) display model inside the package: every body placed and coloured as saved, in metres, upright from the author’s saved view. A bare .hsf stream opens too; the 2D sheets of a drawing are not drawn. |
| Spaceman planogram | .pln | cad | NielsenIQ Spaceman planograms saved as text (.pln): the shelving section drawn in 3D, with every fixture (base, back panel, shelves) and every product placement as its facings, sized from the product’s dimensions and named with the product and its UPC, in centimetres. |
| STEP (ISO-10303-21) | .step, .stp | cad | ISO-10303 STEP/STP CAD assemblies (AP203, AP214, AP242). |
| Sweet Home 3D | .sh3d | cad | Sweet Home 3D homes, built in 3D: walls from the plan with their corners joined and the openings their doors and windows cut, room floors (and ceilings, on a layer that starts hidden), and every placed piece of furniture, door, window and light with its own model, colours and textures, level by level. Reads Home.xml and, for files saved by versions older than 5.3, the serialized home. |
| PowerPoint Presentation | .pptx, .pptm, .ppsx, .ppsm, .potx, .potm | document | PowerPoint decks (.pptx, .pptm, .ppsx, .potx) shown slide by slide from a slide picker, drawn with their layouts and master: text with its fonts, bullets and numbering, shapes, pictures (EMF and WMF included), tables and backgrounds, shown without scripts or anything from the internet. Charts and SmartArt are drawn approximately. A deck carrying a 3D model opens the model in 3D. |
| Spreadsheet | .xlsx, .xlsm, .xlsb, .xls, .ods, .numbers, .csv, .tsv | document | Spreadsheets shown as a table sheet: Excel .xlsx, .xlsm and .xlsb, Excel 97-2003 .xls (BIFF8 and BIFF5), OpenDocument .ods, Apple Numbers and CSV/TSV. Every sheet opens from a sheet picker with the column letters, row numbers and frozen panes pinned while it scrolls, the values as formatted (numbers, dates, percentages), column widths and row heights, fills, bold, italic and colored text, alignment and merged cells. CSV files have their delimiter, encoding and decimal commas detected. Very long sheets show their first 10,000 rows; charts and pictures are counted on the status line and not drawn. |
| Text / Source Code | .txt, .text, .md, .markdown, .log, .py, .pyw, .js, .mjs, .cjs, .jsx, .ts, .tsx, .json, .jsonc, .c, .h, .cpp, .cxx, .cc, .hpp, .hxx, .hh, .ino, .cs, .java, .kt, .kts, .swift, .go, .rs, .rb, .php, .pl, .pm, .lua, .sh, .bash, .zsh, .bat, .cmd, .ps1, .psm1, .psd1, .sql, .yaml, .yml, .toml, .ini, .cfg, .conf, .css, .scss, .less, .xml, .tex, .r | document | Plain text and source code, rendered as a line-numbered, syntax-highlighted listing. Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, C/C++, C#, Java, Go, Rust, shell and PowerShell scripts, SQL, JSON, YAML, TOML, INI, CSS, XML, Markdown and more color by language; logs and unrecognized text render plain. Any readable text file opens, whatever its extension. |
| Word Document | .docx, .docm | document | Word documents, paginated the way Word paginates them: the style cascade, line breaking against real font metrics, tables, headers and footers, footnotes, numbered and bulleted lists, inline and floating images. Text stays selectable and searchable, and links stay clickable. |
| Adobe Illustrator | .ai, .ait | drawing | Adobe Illustrator artwork. Illustrator 9 and later save a PDF-compatible copy, which renders as vector pages; Illustrator 8 and earlier are PostScript, read directly as paths, layers, and text. |
| AutoCAD Drawing | .dwg | drawing | AutoCAD drawings with 2D linework and 3D solid geometry. |
| AutoCAD DXF | .dxf | drawing | AutoCAD DXF text drawing exchange format. |
| Autodesk DWF / DWFx | .dwf, .dwfx | drawing | Autodesk DWF/DWFx published drawing sets — WHIP 2D vector sheets and HOOPS 3D models, with a multi-sheet picker. |
| Embroidery design | .dst, .pes, .pec, .exp, .jef, .vp3 | drawing | Machine-embroidery designs: Tajima .dst, Brother .pes and .pec, Janome .jef, Melco .exp and Pfaff/Viking .vp3. Every stitch is drawn in sewing order as the thread lays it, jumps and trims left out, with each thread on its own layer in its colour (from the thread list or thread chart the file stores; DST and EXP store none, so their threads get stand-in colours). The status line gives the stitch count and the threads. |
| EPS / PostScript | .eps, .epsf, .epsi, .ps | drawing | Encapsulated PostScript and PostScript: text EPS, binary (DOS) EPS with a TIFF or WMF preview, EPSI and .ps documents (first page). The PostScript is followed in the browser, prolog procedures included, and drawn as vector paths, fills, strokes, dashes, clipping, text and embedded images on its own page at its real size. When it cannot be followed, the preview the file embeds is shown and labelled as a preview. |
| Esri Shapefile | .shp | drawing | Esri shapefile GIS vector data: parcels, roads, boundaries, and 3D multipatch buildings. Opens a bare .shp, or a .zip of the whole set (.shp + .shx + .dbf + .prj) with real units from the .prj. |
| GenCAD (PCB board) | .cad, .gcd, .gencad | drawing | GenCAD board files (.cad, .gcd), including laptop and phone repair boardviews: the board outline, copper tracks at their widths on every routed layer, every pad of every placed part, vias and drill holes, component outlines and silkscreen, and each part’s reference designator, top and bottom, in millimetres. |
| Gerber (PCB Fabrication) | .gbr, .ger, .gtl, .gbl, .gts, .gbs, .gto, .gbo, .gtp, .gbp, .gko, .gm1, .drl, .xln, .exc, .drd | drawing | Gerber (RS-274X / X2) and Excellon drill data: the files a printed circuit board is fabricated from. Drop the whole fab package as a .zip and the board is stacked up layer by layer, in fabrication order, with copper, solder mask, silkscreen, paste, outline and drill holes on their own toggles. Layers are identified from their X2 file-function attributes or their filenames, and layer files are recognised by their contents, so a package whose layers are named .art, .001 or nothing at all still opens. Aperture macros, thermals, step & repeat, block apertures, regions, arcs, clear polarity and both zero-suppression conventions are all read. |
| Gerber AccuMark pattern | .tmp | drawing | Gerber AccuMark pattern exports (the .zip of piece records AccuMark writes for a storage area): every pattern piece drawn flat in its base size, with its seam and cut lines, internal lines, grain line, notches and piece name, the pieces laid out side by side. |
| Google Earth KML / KMZ | .kml, .kmz | drawing | Google Earth placemarks: property boundaries, survey points, routes, GPS tracks and My Maps exports, drawn as a real-world-scale map. Opens a .kml, or a .kmz with no 3D model inside (a .kmz carrying a COLLADA model opens as that model). Folders become layers, placemark names are drawn as labels, and each style’s line and fill colors carry over; placemarks with altitude open in 3D. |
| LPKF CircuitPro | .cbf | drawing | LPKF CircuitPro job files: a circuit board after it has been imported into the CAM software that drives LPKF’s board plotters and laser systems, and laid out on the machine bed. The job’s own layers (board outline, copper, silkscreen, solder mask and paste, rubout, pockets, plated and unplated drilling, fiducials) and every film imported into it are read, with each trace stroked at its aperture’s diameter and each pad flashed with the aperture outline the file stores, so the board draws exactly as it would be milled. Layers are stacked in fabrication order and colored by role, the same way an uploaded Gerber package is. |
| PDF Document | drawing | ||
| Silhouette Studio design | .studio3 | drawing | Silhouette Studio designs for Silhouette cutting machines (Cameo, Portrait, Curio): every cut path drawn as placed on the page, curves included, in millimetres, with the page outline. A design whose paths can’t be read shows the preview image the file stores. |
| SVG (Scalable Vector) | .svg | drawing | |
| Windows Metafile (EMF, WMF) | .emf, .wmf, .emz, .wmz | drawing | Windows metafiles: Enhanced Metafiles (.emf, with their EMF+ records), Windows Metafiles (.wmf, placeable or bare) and the gzip-compressed .emz and .wmz. The picture is replayed record by record into vector lines, fills, gradients, text and embedded images on its own page, at its own size in millimetres, clipping included. |
| AVIF Image | .avif, .avifs | image | AVIF raster image: an AV1-compressed still, common on photo sites and modern phones. |
| BMP Image | .bmp, .dib | image | Windows BMP raster image (uncompressed device-independent bitmap). |
| GIF Image | .gif | image | GIF raster image: indexed-color bitmap. Animations show their first frame. |
| HEIC / HEIF Image | .heic, .heif, .hif | image | HEIC/HEIF photo, the iPhone camera default. Decodes in Safari; other browsers need it saved as JPEG first. |
| JPEG Image | .jpg, .jpeg | image | JPEG raster image — lossy compressed photograph. |
| OpenEXR Image | .exr | image | OpenEXR high-dynamic-range image: PBR textures (normal, roughness, displacement maps), HDRI environment maps and render passes. Decoded in the browser, scanline or tiled, half or float, with ZIP, PIZ, PXR24, DWAA, DWAB or RLE compression. Colour images are tone-mapped with automatic exposure; normal maps and other data are shown as their stored values. Multi-part files and named layers (beauty, depth, normals) each open from a layer picker, and the status line lists the channels, pixel type and compression. |
| PNG Image | .png | image | PNG raster image — lossless bitmap with transparency. |
| Radiance HDR Image | .hdr | image | Radiance HDR (RGBE) high-dynamic-range image, the usual download format for HDRI environment maps and the output of the Radiance lighting simulator. Tone-mapped for display with automatic exposure; a .pic Radiance render opens too. |
| SketchUp Material | .skm | image | A SketchUp material (.skm) saved from the Materials panel. It holds no geometry: the viewer opens the texture image the material paints with, full size, and names the material on the status line. A colour-only material is named with its colour. |
| TIFF Image | .tif, .tiff | image | TIFF raster image, the scanner and print archive format. Decodes in Safari; other browsers need it saved as JPEG first. |
| WebP Image | .webp | image | WebP raster image, the compact web format from Google. |
| 3D Manufacturing | .3mf | mesh | 3D Manufacturing Format — modern STL replacement for 3D printing. |
| 3D Studio | .3ds | mesh | Legacy Autodesk 3D Studio binary mesh format. |
| Autodesk 3ds Max | .max | mesh | Native Autodesk 3ds Max scenes. Reads collapsed Editable Poly / Editable Mesh geometry, parametric primitives, splines swept by an Extrude or Lathe, the object hierarchy with instancing, layers, and material colors. Geometry that only exists through other live modifiers, NURBS/patch surfaces, and external V-Ray/Corona proxy meshes cannot be recovered from the file. |
| Autodesk FBX | .fbx | mesh | Autodesk FBX — game-engine asset pipeline standard. |
| Blender | .blend, .blend1, .blend2 | mesh | Native Blender scenes, every version from 1.6 in 1996 to 5.x — fifty-eight releases, both byte orders. Reads the mesh geometry the file stores — vertices, faces, UVs, vertex colours, flat/smooth shading and per-face material slots — placed by each object’s transform, with collections as layers and collection instances expanded. Materials come from the Principled BSDF in each material’s node tree, including packed image textures. Mirror, Array, Solidify and Subdivision Surface modifiers and saved armature poses are evaluated; shapes from Geometry Nodes, Boolean and other generators render as their stored base mesh. |
| COLLADA | .dae | mesh | COLLADA XML scene format with materials and animation. |
| glTF Binary | .glb | mesh | glTF binary — PBR materials, textures, animations, single-file. |
| glTF JSON | .gltf | mesh | glTF JSON manifest with external .bin and image siblings. |
| Polygon File Format | .ply | mesh | Polygon File Format for 3D scanning, with vertex colors. |
| Stereolithography | .stl | mesh | Triangle-soup mesh for 3D printing. Binary or ASCII. |
| USD / USDZ | .usdz, .usd, .usda, .usdc | mesh | Universal Scene Description, the format an iPhone shares: .usdz packages from Object Capture, RoomPlan, Reality Composer and AR Quick Look, plus the loose .usdc crate and .usda text layers that Omniverse, Houdini, Maya and Blender write. The composed stage arrives with its prim hierarchy, UsdPreviewSurface materials, the textures bundled inside the package, and the real-world scale the stage declares in metersPerUnit. |
| VRML | .wrl, .vrml, .wrz | mesh | VRML 1.0 and VRML 2.0 (VRML97): the legacy text-based web 3D format, still written by older CAD exporters. |
| Wavefront OBJ | .obj | mesh | Wavefront OBJ text format with companion .mtl material file. |
| X3D | .x3d, .x3dv | mesh | X3D, the successor to VRML still used in scientific visualisation, in both its XML (.x3d) and classic (.x3dv) encodings, with image textures. |
| EULUMDAT Photometric | .ldt | photometric | EULUMDAT photometric files, the European standard: the intensity table scaled to absolute candela, expanded from its symmetry and drawn as a 3D photometric web coloured by intensity, with the polar curves, the luminaire body, and lumens, peak candela, beam angle, colour temperature and manufacturer on the status line. |
| IES Photometric | .ies | photometric | IESNA LM-63 photometric files, every revision: the luminaire’s candela distribution drawn as a 3D photometric web coloured by intensity, with the C0-C180 and C90-C270 polar curves, the luminaire outline, and lumens, peak candela, beam angle, lamp and manufacturer on the status line. One click opens it in the IES Viewer for the polar plot and isofootcandle plan. |
| ASTM E57 Point Cloud | .e57 | pointcloud | ASTM E57 laser scans (E2807), the vendor-neutral exchange format: every scan in the file, cartesian or spherical, placed by its registration pose on its own layer, with RGB or an intensity ramp and missed returns dropped. The file is read by byte range in a worker and sampled evenly to the device’s point budget, so multi-gigabyte projects open. Panoramas and photos in the file are not drawn. |
| LAS / LAZ Point Cloud | .las, .laz | pointcloud | LAS/LAZ LiDAR and photogrammetry point clouds, including LASzip-compressed .laz. Rendered with per-point RGB, an ASPRS classification palette, or an intensity ramp, and split into per-class layers when the scan is classified. |
| Text Point Cloud (PTS / PTX / XYZ) | .pts, .ptx, .xyz | pointcloud | Text point clouds: Leica .pts and .ptx scan exports and .xyz point lists (X Y Z with optional intensity, RGB and normals, space- or comma-separated). The file is read as a stream and sampled evenly to the device’s point budget, so multi-gigabyte scans open without loading the whole file; colors come from RGB or an intensity ramp, PTX scans are placed by their registration transforms, and multi-scan files get a layer per scan. |
| Windows Program | .exe, .dll, .sys, .ocx, .cpl, .scr, .efi, .mun | program | A Windows program (.exe, .dll, .sys) holds machine code, not geometry. Dropped on the viewer it opens as an info sheet: the application icons, the version block Explorer shows in Properties, who signed it and when, the architecture and subsystem, the libraries it links against and delay-loads, per-section entropy with a packer verdict, the C++ classes recovered from RTTI, the COM interfaces it uses, and whether anything is appended to it. A view menu opens the rest: every embedded string, a disassembly of any code section (x86, x86-64, ARM and ARM64) with calls resolved to the imported functions they reach, string literals shown at their reference sites, function boundaries from the exception directory, and public symbols fetched from the Microsoft symbol server when the build published them. Every embedded resource renders too: icons, cursors and bitmaps as pictures, dialog templates drawn to scale, string, menu, accelerator and message tables, and manifests. A self-extracting archive is opened, and the model inside it is loaded. Programs are never shared, embedded, or re-downloaded from here. |
Supported Export Formats
Open a file in any supported format, then click Export in the toolbar to save as:
STL
.stlBinary stereolithography mesh for 3D printing, CNC, and FEA.
OBJ + MTL
.zipWavefront OBJ + companion MTL material file, bundled as a zip.
glTF Binary
.glbSelf-contained GLB with PBR materials, textures, and layer structure preserved as glTF nodes.
PDF Snapshot
.pdfA4 landscape PDF of the current view with header caption (filename, format, triangle count) and footer.
Self-contained HTML
.htmlOne web page that opens offline in any browser: a model with orbit, pan and zoom, or a drawing with pan, zoom and layer toggles. Nothing to install, nothing fetched.
Because all formats normalize into the same internal scene model, every supported import format can be exported as any of the four outputs — e.g. Rhino .3dm to STL, FBX to GLB, SKP to PDF, etc.
Features
Auto Format Detection
Drop any file — magic-byte sniffing identifies the format before parsing, so you don’t need to set anything.
Shared SceneGraph
Every adapter normalizes into the same scene model: meshes, materials, layers, transforms. Behavior is consistent regardless of source format.
Layer Visibility
Toggle layers on/off from the side panel. Works for SKP, DWG, STEP assemblies, Rhino layers, and any format with grouping.
View Presets
3D orbit plus six orthographic views (top, bottom, front, back, left, right). Solid, wireframe, or x-ray render modes.
Share Links
Generate a shareable link that preserves view state, layer visibility, and render mode. Recipients see the model exactly as you have it open.
Embed Anywhere
One-line iframe snippet drops the viewer into any HTML page. Optional toolbar-hidden mode for chromeless embeds.
Universal Export
Save any supported format as STL, OBJ, GLB, or PDF — even formats this site can’t natively author (like 3DM or FBX → STL).
No Server Round-Trip
Files are parsed and rendered in WebAssembly or pure JavaScript on your machine. Nothing uploads by default.
Issue Reporting
The Report button bundles your file, view state, and a screenshot into a one-click bug or feature submission.
How It Works
- 1
Drop or open a file
Drag a 3D file onto the viewer, or click "Open a 3D File" to pick from your machine. URLs work too via the ?url= query parameter.
- 2
Auto-detect + parse
The viewer reads the first 16 KB of the file to identify the format via magic bytes, then lazy-loads the matching adapter (no wasted bandwidth on parsers you don’t need).
- 3
Render + explore
The parsed scene normalizes into a shared SceneGraph (meshes, materials, layers). Three.js renders it; the toolbar offers view presets, render modes, and layer toggles.
- 4
Share, embed, or export
Generate a share link (file + view state preserved), copy an iframe snippet, or save as STL / OBJ / GLB / PDF — all without leaving the page.
Dedicated Viewer & Converter Pages
Every common format has its own page with format-specific documentation, FAQ, and SEO-friendly URL. They share this same viewer under the hood.

Your Files Stay on Your Computer
Files are parsed by JavaScript and WebAssembly running in your browser. Nothing is uploaded by default. The Share button is the only feature that touches a server — and only when the file isn’t already a public URL. Shared files are stored for 90 days and then deleted automatically.
STEP and IGES CAD files are tessellated with Open CASCADE Technology via occt-import-js (LGPL-2.1). Word documents are typeset with Carlito, Caladea, Liberation and Gelasio (SIL OFL 1.1). See the open-source licenses.
Use of this viewer is governed by our Terms of Use.
Free to Use, No Signup
There are no accounts and no watermarks on the 3D Viewer. If it saved you time, the one thing we ask is a mention: a post, a link from your blog or course page, or a reply to someone asking how to open a file.
Share it
Made something reusable? Add it to the Free Parts Library. Writing about it? Copy a link, badge or citation. Send us your post and we’ll feature it with a link to your site.
Hear about new formats
Occasional emails when the viewer learns a new format or gets a new tool.
Frequently Asked Questions
▶Which 3D file formats are supported?
The viewer renders 78 formats today and detects 0 more. See the full catalog below for extensions, descriptions, and links to dedicated viewer pages.
▶Can I convert between formats?
Yes. Open any supported format and click Export in the toolbar to save as STL (3D printing), OBJ (Wavefront), GLB (glTF binary), or PDF (snapshot of the current view).
▶Is anything uploaded to a server?
No, not by default. Files are parsed and rendered entirely in your browser. The only time a file is uploaded is when you explicitly click Share and the file is local (not already served from a URL) — in that case it’s stored for 90 days to back the share link.
▶How big a file can I open?
The viewer can handle multi-hundred-megabyte files on a modern desktop browser. Mobile devices may struggle with very large files. The Share upload limit is 100 MB — larger files can still be viewed locally, just not uploaded for sharing.
▶Can I embed the viewer in my own site?
Yes. Click Embed in the toolbar to generate a one-line iframe snippet for any model URL. You can choose whether the embed shows the surrounding toolbar, pick a compressed or readable link, and set the starting camera, view, layers, and render mode. See the embedding guide for the full list of URL parameters.
▶How do I open a file directly via URL?
Pass ?url=with the public URL of your file, e.g. /tools/3d-viewer?url=https://example.com/model.glb. The viewer auto-detects the format from the file’s magic bytes. The same parameter also takes a data: URI, which carries a small file inline with no server involved. For files with no public address at all — bytes your page already holds, anything behind a login, or a file on the visitor’s own machine — embed with ?pm=1 and post the model in directly; see the embedding guide.
▶What if my format isn’t supported yet?
Click Report in the toolbar with a sample file and a short note — we add formats based on real user requests. IES is detected today but not yet rendered; that’s next on the list.
