What Is a Solid Edge Viewer File?
Solid Edge can save any part or assembly as a viewer document (Save As, Viewer Document), the file Solid Edge Mobile Viewer opens. A .sev is a small XML file that carries a thumbnail and the model’s display data: the triangles Solid Edge draws on screen for every part, the position of every part in the assembly, and the colour of each part’s style. The exact solid model stays behind in the .par, .psm and .asm documents.
The viewer reads the document in your browser. It unpacks the display data, draws each part from its triangles with the normals Solid Edge wrote, and places every occurrence where the assembly put it, sub-assemblies included. A part used many times is read once and drawn wherever it is used. The model opens in millimetres, in the same axes Solid Edge uses, so it lines up with a .par or .asm of the same design.
The model exports like any 3D model, for example to STEP, GLB, OBJ or STL. For the exact B-rep, open the Solid Edge part itself in the Solid Edge viewer, or ask for a STEP export and open it in the STEP viewer.
Who Uses Solid Edge Viewer Files?
Solid Edge users save viewer documents to show a design to people who do not have Solid Edge: customers, suppliers, shop floors, students and reviewers, often on a phone or tablet. Whoever receives the .sev can open it on this page in any browser, with no sign-in and no Siemens software installed.

What is drawn: every part of the document from the display triangles Solid Edge saved, with its shading normals, placed at its position in the assembly (sub-assemblies included), in the colour of its style, transparency included. The parts list names every occurrence as the assembly names it.
Files: viewer documents saved by Solid Edge, from parts, sheet-metal parts and assemblies, loose or inside a .zip. The document is recognised by its content, so a renamed file still opens. Units are millimetres.
Not drawn: the exact solid model (a viewer document carries display triangles only), textures, annotations and PMI. A document whose display data cannot be read shows a notice with its thumbnail and advises a STEP export from Solid Edge.

It is as exact as the file: a viewer document carries the triangles Solid Edge draws on screen, which is right for viewing and measuring. For machining or further CAD work, use the Solid Edge part itself or a STEP export of it.
▶Can I see the assembly structure?
Yes. Open the parts list: every occurrence is listed by the name it has in the assembly, and each can be hidden or isolated.
▶Is this Solid Edge Viewer viewer really free?
Yes, completely free. No signup, no watermarks, no file size limits on the viewer (the optional share-link feature has a 100 MB upload cap). Built by Innerscene as a tool for architects, engineers, and designers.
▶Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. All parsing, rendering, and conversion runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded, stored, or transmitted by default. The Share button is the only feature that uploads a file, and only when you explicitly click it.
▶Can I convert to another format?
Yes. Click Export in the toolbar. The menu offers GLB, OBJ, STL, USDZ, 3MF, PLY, STEP (a faceted solid), DXF, DWG (converted on our server), PDF, SVG, PNG and JPG.
