What Is a NoteWorthy Composer Score File?
NoteWorthy Composer saves its scores as .nwc files: the song’s title, author and lyricist, then each staff with its name, its notes, rests, chords, bar lines, clefs, key and time signatures, dynamics, tempo marks and text, and the verses of lyrics sung under it. Versions 2 and later compress the file (it starts with “[NWZ]”); NoteWorthy Composer 2.75 also writes the same score as plain text, the .nwctxt format.
The viewer reads the file in your browser and engraves it as a page of sheet music: systems of staves with braces and brackets, clefs, key and time signatures, notes and rests with their stems, flags, beams, dots, accidentals, ties, slurs and triplets, bar lines, repeats and endings, dynamics and tempo marks, and every verse of the lyrics under its notes. Text is read in the code page it was saved in, so Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Cyrillic and accented Western titles and lyrics come out as written.
Autodesk Navisworks also uses .nwc for its model caches; the viewer tells the two apart by what the file holds and opens each as what it is. The engraved page saves as PDF, PNG or SVG.

Compatibility & Format Notes
What is read: .nwc files saved by NoteWorthy Composer 1.30 to 2.75, compressed or not, and .nwctxt text files. Song information, staves with their names, lines and groups, clefs (with octave shifts), key and time signatures, notes, chords, rests and rest chords with their durations, dots, triplets, accidentals, ties, slurs, beams, stems, staccato, tenuto and accents, grace notes, multi-measure rests, bar lines, repeats, endings, dynamics, tempo, text, performance styles, flow directions, sustain pedal marks and lyrics.
Layout: the page is laid out by the viewer, so line and page breaks differ from NoteWorthy Composer’s own print. A bar marked to start a new system starts one here too. Hidden staves and items hidden in NoteWorthy Composer stay hidden.
Not shown: MIDI controller and instrument changes (they only affect playback), user objects from NoteWorthy Composer plug-ins, and custom note head shapes beyond the cross head.

Frequently Asked Questions
▶Do I need NoteWorthy Composer to open an .nwc file?
No. The score is read and engraved in your browser, so it opens on Windows, a Mac, a Chromebook or a phone with nothing installed.
▶Are lyrics in Korean, Japanese or Russian shown correctly?
Yes. Older NoteWorthy Composer files store text in the Windows code page of the computer that saved them. The viewer works out which one from the text itself, so Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Cyrillic and accented Western lyrics read as they were typed.
▶My .nwc file is a Navisworks model, not a score. Will it open?
Yes. Navisworks caches use the same extension, and the viewer tells them apart by their content: a Navisworks .nwc opens in the Navisworks viewer as a 3D model.
▶Is this NoteWorthy Composer viewer really free?
Yes, completely free. No signup, no watermarks, no file size limits on the viewer (the optional share-link feature has a 100 MB upload cap). Built by Innerscene as a tool for architects, engineers, and designers.
▶Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. All parsing, rendering, and conversion runs in your browser: nothing is uploaded, stored, or transmitted by default. The Share button is the only feature that uploads a file, and only when you explicitly click it.
▶Can I convert to another format?
Yes. Click Export in the toolbar. The engraved score saves as PDF, SVG, PNG or JPG.
▶Can I embed this viewer on my own site?
Yes. Click Embed in the toolbar to generate a one-line <iframe> snippet you can paste into any HTML page. You can choose whether the embed shows the viewer’s toolbar.
