What Is a Navisworks File?
Autodesk Navisworks brings the models of a building project together in one place: the Revit architecture, the steel frame, the ducts, pipes and cable trays, a site model from Civil 3D. Each source model is converted into a .nwc cache beside it, a project file (.nwf) links those caches, and the combined model is published as one self-contained .nwd file for review, clash detection and 4D simulation.
The viewer reads the .nwd or .nwc in your browser. It inflates the file’s compressed sections, decodes the tessellated shapes Navisworks stores, and places every part where the model has it, in the colour of its material. A shape used many times, such as a repeated beam or a light fitting, is decoded once and drawn at every place it is used. Grid lines and centre lines are drawn as lines. The model is turned upright from Navisworks’ Z-up axes; models exported from Revit open in feet.
A project file (.nwf) holds no geometry, so it opens to a note that names the models it links; open those .nwc, .nwd, .ifc or .rvt files here to see them. The model exports like any 3D model, for example to GLB, OBJ, DWG or STL. Revit projects open in the 3D viewer and IFC exports in the IFC viewer.
Who Uses Navisworks Files?
BIM coordinators, general contractors, MEP engineers and design teams publish .nwd files to share the federated model of a project, and subcontractors, owners, facility managers and site staff receive them. Many of them have no Navisworks seat or are on a phone or a Mac; this page shows the model in any browser, with no sign-in and nothing to install.

Compatibility & Format Notes
What is drawn: every placed part of the model: its tessellated faces, at the position, rotation and scale saved for it, in the colour of its material (transparent materials stay transparent), and line work such as grids and centre lines. Shapes shared by many parts are decoded once. Units are feet for models exported from Revit; other models open in the file’s own units.
Files: .nwd published models and .nwc caches, including caches written by the Revit, AutoCAD and other exporters, loose or inside a .zip. The file is recognised by its content, so a renamed file still opens. A project file (.nwf) opens to a note naming the models it links.
Not drawn: the selection tree and element properties, textures and rendering materials, saved viewpoints, clash results, redlines and TimeLiner schedules. A file whose content is stored in a layout the viewer does not read opens to a note with the export Navisworks offers (FBX or DWFx).

Your Files Stay on Your Computer
Your Navisworks files are parsed entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or shared unless you explicitly click the Share button. Shared files are hosted for 90 days then deleted.
Frequently Asked Questions
▶Do I need Navisworks or Navisworks Freedom installed?
No. The viewer reads the file with its own reader, in your browser. Nothing from Autodesk needs to be installed, and no account is needed.
▶Why does my .nwf file show a note and no model?
An .nwf is a project file: it lists the models appended to the project and keeps none of their geometry. The note names the linked files. Open those .nwc or .nwd files here, or ask for the project published as an .nwd, which holds the whole model in one file.
▶Can I see the selection tree and properties?
Not yet. The viewer draws the geometry of every part with its colour; the selection tree and the element properties Navisworks stores are not shown. For properties, open the source model (a Revit project or an IFC export) in the matching viewer here.
▶Is the geometry exact?
It is the tessellation Navisworks itself draws, written into the file when the model was cached or published. It is right for viewing, measuring and coordination checks; for design changes, work from the source model.
▶Is this Navisworks viewer really free?
Yes, completely free. No signup, no watermarks, no file size limits on the viewer (the optional share-link feature has a 100 MB upload cap). Built by Innerscene as a tool for architects, engineers, and designers.
▶Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. All parsing, rendering, and conversion runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded, stored, or transmitted by default. The Share button is the only feature that uploads a file, and only when you explicitly click it.
▶Can I convert to another format?
Yes. Click Export in the toolbar. The menu offers GLB, OBJ, STL, USDZ, 3MF, PLY, STEP (a faceted solid), DXF, DWG (converted on our server), PDF, SVG, PNG and JPG.
▶Can I embed this viewer on my own site?
Yes. Click Embed in the toolbar to generate a one-line <iframe> snippet you can paste into any HTML page. You can choose whether the embed shows the viewer’s toolbar.
