What Is a JT File?
JT is an ISO standard (ISO 14306) for sharing 3D product data. A JT file holds a product structure (assemblies, sub-assemblies and parts, each placed by a transform) and, for every part, triangulated shapes at several levels of detail, compressed so a large assembly stays small. Siemens NX and Teamcenter write it, and so do the JT exporters of CATIA, Creo, SOLIDWORKS, Solid Edge and Inventor, which is why suppliers and manufacturers use it to exchange designs.
The viewer reads the file in your browser: the product structure, the most detailed shape of every part, the colours and the placements, in the units the file names. JT 8, 9 and 10 files open, whether their data is stored plainly or compressed. A Siemens NX part (.prt) opens the same way, from the JT display data NX saves inside every part it writes, so an NX part can be viewed without NX.
A JT assembly can also be split over several files, one per part. Upload it together with its part files, or as a .zip of the folder, and every part is placed; if some are missing, the viewer names them. An NX assembly keeps no shapes of its own, so it opens to a notice listing the part files it places; each of them opens here on its own. A model that opens exports like any 3D model, for example to STL, STEP, GLB or OBJ.
Who Uses JT Files?
Automotive and aerospace suppliers, machine builders, manufacturing and quality engineers, and purchasing teams receive JT files and NX parts from customers and partners. The person who needs to look at one often has no NX, Teamcenter or JT2Go installed, works on a Mac or a phone, or only needs a quick check; this page shows the model in any browser, with no sign-in and nothing to install.

Compatibility & Format Notes
What is drawn: every part of the product structure at its saved position, from the most detailed triangulated shape the file holds, in its saved colour, in the file’s units. JT 8.0 through 10.5 files written by Siemens tools and other exporters have been checked, including files whose data is compressed with zlib or LZMA. Siemens NX parts from NX 8.5 through NX 2027 open from the JT data saved inside them, in metres.
Files: .jt files, loose or inside a .zip, and NX .prt parts. A multi-file JT assembly opens with the part files uploaded beside it or zipped with it. The file is recognised by its content, so a renamed file still opens.
Not drawn: the exact B-rep geometry (JT B-rep and Parasolid XT segments), PMI annotations, wireframe edges, textures and the metadata properties. A few old JT 8 files store shapes with a legacy compression this viewer does not decode; those shapes are counted and left out. NX assemblies and NX parts saved without their display data open to a notice.

▶Do I need NX, Teamcenter or JT2Go installed?
No. The viewer reads the file with its own reader, in your browser. Nothing from Siemens needs to be installed, and no account is needed.
▶Can it open an NX .prt file?
Yes. Every part NX saves carries a JT copy of its display data, and the viewer draws the part from it. An NX assembly holds no shapes of its own, so it opens to a notice naming the part files it places; each of those opens here on its own.
▶My JT assembly is split into several files. How do I open it?
Upload the assembly file together with its part files, or put the folder in a .zip and upload that. The viewer places every part it is given and names any that are missing.
▶Is the geometry exact?
It is the triangulated shape saved in the JT file, at its most detailed level. It is right for viewing, measuring, 3D printing and review; for design changes, work from the CAD model or a STEP export.
▶Is this JT viewer really free?
Yes, completely free. No signup, no watermarks, no file size limits on the viewer (the optional share-link feature has a 100 MB upload cap). Built by Innerscene as a tool for architects, engineers, and designers.
▶Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. All parsing, rendering, and conversion runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded, stored, or transmitted by default. The Share button is the only feature that uploads a file, and only when you explicitly click it.
▶Can I convert to another format?
Yes. Click Export in the toolbar. The menu offers GLB, OBJ, STL, USDZ, 3MF, PLY, STEP (a faceted solid), DXF, DWG (converted on our server), PDF, SVG, PNG and JPG.
