Free Online Affinity Viewer (No Signup)

An Affinity file is a document from Affinity Designer (.afdesign), Affinity Photo (.afphoto), Affinity Publisher (.afpub) or the unified Affinity app (.af). Also opens DWG, DXF, STEP, IGES, IFC, SKP, STL, OBJ, GLB, FBX, 3DM and other 3D/CAD files. Drop any file on the viewer.

Works directly in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge

Also from Innerscene: Circadian Lab, a free lighting calculator for room illuminance, melanopic EML, and glare.

Private by default. Files are parsed locally in your browser. Uploading is only required if you choose to share a link.

What Is an Affinity File?

Affinity is the design suite first made by Serif: Affinity Designer for vector illustration, Affinity Photo for photo editing and Affinity Publisher for page layout, joined in 2025 into one Affinity app whose documents end in .af. All four kinds of file are the same container, with the artwork stored in Affinity’s own format, which Serif has not published and which only Affinity opens.

Alongside the artwork, Affinity saves a preview picture of the document by default: the first page, spread or artboard at full size. This viewer reads the container with its own code, in your browser, and shows that preview, labelled as the preview, with the app version and page count the file states.

The preview exports as PNG, JPG or PDF. For the editable vector artwork, export the document from Affinity as PDF or SVG; both open here with every shape.

Who Uses Affinity Files?

Designers who send Affinity files to clients, printers and colleagues who do not have Affinity, people who were sent a .afdesign, .afphoto, .afpub or .af file and want to see what is in it, and anyone checking an old Affinity document on a phone, a Chromebook or a computer without the app.

Common Use Cases

  • See what an Affinity Designer, Photo or Publisher file shows without installing Affinity
  • Open a .af file from the unified Affinity app on Windows, a Mac, a Chromebook or a phone
  • Check which Affinity version saved a document and how many pages it has
  • Save the document’s preview as a PNG, JPG or PDF for an email or a review
  • Find the right file in a folder of Affinity documents before opening it in Affinity

Features

Designer, Photo, Publisher and .af

.afdesign, .afphoto and .afpub documents and .af files from the unified Affinity app, recognised by their signature whatever their name.

Full-Page Preview

The preview picture Affinity saves inside the document (the first page, spread or artboard), at its own pixel size.

Labelled as the Preview

The status line says the picture is the preview Affinity stored, so nobody mistakes it for the editable artwork.

Document Facts

The Affinity version, the platform it was saved on and the page count are shown under the picture.

Clear Notices

A document saved without its preview, or a copy cut short, gets a notice saying so and how to export it from Affinity.

Export to PNG, JPG or PDF

Save the preview from the Export menu for an email, a review or a contact sheet.

No Affinity Needed

An in-house reader of the Affinity container that runs in your browser. Nothing to install.

Nothing Is Uploaded

The file is read entirely in your browser. No account, no upload, no copy of your file on a server.

Compatibility & Format Notes

The viewer recognises an Affinity document by its signature, whatever its name, and reads the container: the information block, the file table of its compressed sections, the document header (the app, its version and the platform it was saved on) and the blocks at the end of the file that hold the preview picture and the document facts (page and artboard counts). Affinity Designer, Photo and Publisher and the unified Affinity app all write this container.

The picture shown is the preview Affinity saved, at the size it was saved, so zooming shows its pixels, and a document of several pages shows its first page or spread. The status line says it is the preview. A document saved without a preview, or a copy cut short before its end, gets a notice saying so.

The editable vector shapes, pixel layers, adjustments and text are in Affinity’s own format and are not drawn. For them, export the document from Affinity as PDF or SVG. Nothing is sent to a server.

Frequently Asked Questions

▶How do I open an Affinity file without Affinity?

Drop the .afdesign, .afphoto, .afpub or .af file on this page. The viewer reads it in your browser and shows the full-page preview Affinity saved inside it, on Windows, a Mac, a Chromebook, Linux or a phone alike.

▶Why does it say "preview image"?

Affinity stores its artwork in its own format, which Serif has not published. What every Affinity document does carry in the open is a preview picture of its first page, and that is what is shown. To see the vector artwork itself, export the document from Affinity as PDF or SVG and open that here.

▶My file opens with a notice and no picture. Why?

The document was saved without its preview, or the copy was cut short (Affinity writes the preview at the end of the file). Open it in Affinity and use File, Export to save it as PDF, SVG or PNG.

▶Which Affinity versions are supported?

Affinity Designer, Photo and Publisher documents and .af documents from the unified Affinity app share one container, and any of them that carries its preview opens here.

▶Is this Affinity viewer really free?

Yes, completely free. No signup, no watermarks, no file size limits on the viewer (the optional share-link feature has a 100 MB upload cap). Built by Innerscene as a tool for architects, engineers, and designers.

▶Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. All parsing, rendering, and conversion runs in your browser: nothing is uploaded, stored, or transmitted by default. The Share button is the only feature that uploads a file, and only when you explicitly click it.

▶Can I convert to another format?

Yes, to image formats. Click Export in the toolbar to save the preview as a PNG, a JPG or a PDF. The viewer does not write Affinity files.

▶Can I embed this viewer on my own site?

Yes. Click Embed in the toolbar to generate a one-line <iframe> snippet you can paste into any HTML page. You can choose whether the embed shows the viewer’s toolbar.
