What Is a Creo View File?
Creo View is the viewing format PTC’s tools publish for people who do not have the CAD software: Creo Parametric, Creo Illustrate, Windchill and Vuforia Studio all write it. A .pvz file is a ZIP package. Its .pvs file holds the product structure, the assemblies and sub-assemblies with every part placed by its own position and rotation, and one .ol file per part holds that part’s shape as triangles, with its feature edges as polylines.
The viewer reads the package in your browser. It walks the product structure from the root, places every occurrence, and draws each part from its tessellated faces in the colour saved with each face. A part used many times is read once and drawn wherever it is used. Colours and transparency set on a part or an occurrence are applied, pictures mapped onto faces are drawn when the package holds them, and the translucent quads Creo draws for datum planes are left out. The model opens in metres.
The model exports like any 3D model, for example to STEP, GLB, OBJ or STL. For exact B-rep geometry, ask for a STEP export and open it in the STEP viewer.
Who Uses Creo View Files?
Engineering teams on Creo and Windchill publish Creo View packages so that buyers, suppliers, service technicians and managers can look at a design without a CAD seat, and Vuforia Studio uses the same packages for augmented reality experiences. Anyone who receives a .pvz can open it here in any browser, with no sign-in and no PTC software installed.

What is drawn: the product structure (assemblies, sub-assemblies and every placed part), each part’s tessellated faces from its .ol file at full resolution, the feature edges as lines, the colour of each face, the colours the structure sets on a part or an occurrence, the transparency set on an occurrence, and pictures mapped onto faces when the package holds the image. The parts list names every occurrence by its part name.
Files: .pvz packages from Creo Parametric, Creo Illustrate, Creo View, Windchill and Vuforia Studio, loose or inside a .zip. A single .ol part opens on its own, and a .pvs structure file asks for the .ol files it lists, which can be added to the same load. Files are recognised by their content, so a renamed file still opens. Units are metres.
Not drawn: exact B-rep geometry (the package carries triangles for display), datum planes, annotations and markups, and the figures and sequences of a Creo Illustrate package. A package that lists parts it does not hold, as a partial publish does, opens with the parts it has, and a note beside the model counts the ones that are missing.

Frequently Asked Questions
▶Do I need Creo View installed?
No. The viewer reads the Creo View package with its own reader, in your browser. Nothing from PTC needs to be installed, and no account is needed.
▶I only have a .pvs file. Why does it ask for more files?
A .pvs file holds only the structure: which parts the assembly has and where they go. The shapes are in the .ol files that sit beside it. Add those .ol files when the viewer asks, or upload the whole .pvz package, or a .zip of the .pvs with its .ol files.
▶Why are some parts missing?
The package probably lists parts it does not contain, which happens when only part of a structure is published. A note beside the model counts them. Ask the sender for the full package, or for a STEP export of the model.
▶Is the geometry exact?
It is as exact as the file: Creo View carries a triangle copy of each surface, written at the accuracy chosen when the package was published, which is right for viewing and measuring. For machining or further CAD work, use a STEP export of the original model.
▶Can I see the assembly structure?
Yes. Open the parts list: every occurrence is listed by its part name, and each can be hidden or isolated.
▶Is this Creo View viewer really free?
Yes, completely free. No signup, no watermarks, no file size limits on the viewer (the optional share-link feature has a 100 MB upload cap). Built by Innerscene as a tool for architects, engineers, and designers.
▶Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. All parsing, rendering, and conversion runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded, stored, or transmitted by default. The Share button is the only feature that uploads a file, and only when you explicitly click it.
▶Can I convert to another format?
Yes. Click Export in the toolbar. The menu offers GLB, OBJ, STL, USDZ, 3MF, PLY, STEP (a faceted solid), DXF, DWG (converted on our server), PDF, SVG, PNG and JPG.
▶Can I embed this viewer on my own site?
