What Is a CorelDRAW File?
CorelDRAW is Corel’s vector illustration and layout program, used for logos, signs, vehicle wraps, packaging, engraving and laser-cutting work since 1989. Its documents are saved as .cdr drawings, and templates as .cdt.
Two layouts are in use. CorelDRAW 6 to X3 write a RIFF file whose form type names the version. From X4 the drawing is a ZIP package that holds the same kind of data, along with a thumbnail and, from X6, the drawing split into separate data streams. The format is not published; this viewer reads both layouts with its own reader, in your browser.
Every page is drawn as vector shapes, text and pictures at its real size in millimetres. The drawing exports as SVG, PDF, DXF, PNG or a self-contained HTML page.
Who Uses CorelDRAW Files?
Sign makers, print shops, engravers and laser-cutting businesses, packaging and apparel designers, and the clients, colleagues and suppliers who receive a .cdr from them and have no CorelDRAW installed, on a Mac, a Chromebook, Windows or a phone.
Common Use Cases
- See a .cdr logo, sign or layout without CorelDRAW
- Check a print or laser-cut file before production
- Turn a CorelDRAW drawing into an SVG or a PDF at its real size
- Get the outlines into CAD or a laser cutter as DXF
- Look through every page of a multi-page drawing
- Save a PNG or JPG of the artwork for a web page or an email
Features
CorelDRAW 7 and Later
RIFF drawings from versions 7 to X3 and the packages of X4 and later, drawings and templates alike.
Every Page
Each page is drawn at its own size, one below the other.
Shapes and Curves
Rectangles with rounded corners, ellipses, arcs, polygons, curves and paths.
Fills and Outlines
Solid and fountain fills; outlines with their width, colour, caps, joins and dashes.
PowerClips and Transparency
PowerClip contents are clipped to their container, and uniform transparency is kept.
Text and Pictures
Artistic and paragraph text at its size and in its typeface, and embedded bitmaps.
CorelDRAW Layers
The drawing’s layers appear in the layer panel, where you can hide them.
Its Real Size
Pages are drawn in millimetres, and the status line gives the page size and the CorelDRAW version.
Thumbnail as a Fallback
When the drawing cannot be read, the file’s thumbnail is shown and labelled as a thumbnail.
Export to SVG, PDF, DXF, PNG, JPG, HTML
Save the drawing as a vector file, a CAD drawing, an image, or one web page that opens offline.
No CorelDRAW Needed
An in-house reader that runs in your browser. Nothing to install.
Nothing Is Uploaded
The file is read and drawn entirely in your browser. No account, no upload, no copy of your file on a server.
Compatibility & Format Notes
The viewer reads drawings and templates from CorelDRAW 7 and later: the RIFF files of versions 7 to X3, compressed sections included, and the packages of X4 and later. It has been checked against 397 sample files from CorelDRAW 7 to 2023.
It draws rectangles with rounded corners, ellipses and arcs, polygons, curves and paths; solid and fountain fills, with pattern and texture fills shown as a flat tint; outlines with their width, colour, caps, joins and dashes; groups, blends and contours, PowerClip contents clipped to their container, uniform transparency, artistic and paragraph text at its size and in its typeface, and embedded bitmaps. CorelDRAW’s layers become layers in the layer panel, and the pages are laid out one below the other. The status line names the CorelDRAW version and gives the page size and the number of pages. Lens effects other than transparency, envelopes, perspective and extrusions, arrowheads and page backgrounds are left out.
When a drawing cannot be read, the thumbnail stored in the file is shown and the status line marks it as a thumbnail. Files from CorelDRAW 5 and earlier use an older layout: for those, a notice shows the thumbnail and asks for a PDF or SVG export from CorelDRAW. Nothing is sent to a server.

Your Files Stay on Your Computer
Your CorelDRAW files are parsed entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or shared unless you explicitly click the Share button. Shared files are hosted for 90 days then deleted.
Frequently Asked Questions
▶How do I open a CDR file without CorelDRAW?
Drop it on this page. The viewer reads the drawing in your browser and shows every page, on Windows, a Mac, a Chromebook, Linux or a phone alike. From the Export menu you can save it as SVG, PDF, DXF, PNG or JPG.
▶Which CorelDRAW versions open?
Drawings and templates from CorelDRAW 7 and later. Files from CorelDRAW 5 and earlier show their thumbnail with a notice asking for a PDF or SVG export.
▶Why does my drawing show a lower-quality picture?
When the drawing in a file cannot be read, the viewer shows the thumbnail CorelDRAW stored inside it, and the status line says “thumbnail”. For the full-quality drawing, export the file from CorelDRAW as PDF or SVG and open that file.
▶Will the exported SVG or PDF be the right size?
Yes. The pages are drawn at their size in millimetres, so the SVG export carries that size and the vector PDF export draws the artwork at 1:1.
▶Can I send the outlines to a laser cutter?
Yes. Export the drawing as DXF: the outlines are written as DXF polylines in millimetres on layers named after the CorelDRAW layers, which laser, plasma and engraving software import.
▶Is this CorelDRAW viewer really free?
Yes, completely free. No signup, no watermarks, no file size limits on the viewer (the optional share-link feature has a 100 MB upload cap). Built by Innerscene as a tool for architects, engineers, and designers.
▶Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. All parsing, rendering, and conversion runs in your browser: nothing is uploaded, stored, or transmitted by default. The Share button is the only feature that uploads a file, and only when you explicitly click it.
▶Can I convert to another format?
Yes, to vector and image formats. Click Export in the toolbar to save the drawing as SVG (at its real size), PDF (a vector page or a snapshot of the view), DXF, a self-contained HTML page, or a PNG or JPG image. DWG is also offered: that one is converted on our server from the DXF the viewer writes. The viewer does not write .cdr.
▶Can I embed this viewer on my own site?
Yes. Click Embed in the toolbar to generate a one-line <iframe> snippet you can paste into any HTML page. You can choose whether the embed shows the viewer’s toolbar.
