PowerShape is the surface, solid and mesh modeller Delcam built for mould, die and tooling design, sold by Autodesk since 2014 and used alongside PowerMill for machining. Its models are saved as .psmodel files: a compound file holding the model’s object tables and its solids as Parasolid partitions.
PowerShape stores those solids and surfaces enciphered, in a form only PowerShape reads. What the file does carry in the open is the thumbnail PowerShape saves with every model, the release that saved it and the index of its solids. This viewer reads them with its own code, in your browser, and shows the thumbnail, labelled as the preview, with the release and the solid count.
For the 3D model itself, export it from PowerShape as STEP, IGES, Parasolid or STL; all four open here as real geometry you can rotate, section and measure.
Who Uses PowerShape Files?
Mould makers, toolmakers and product designers who receive .psmodel files from a toolroom or a customer, CNC programmers checking which model a job belongs to, and anyone sent a PowerShape model who has no PowerShape licence to open it.
Common Use Cases
- See what a PowerShape model shows without a PowerShape licence
- Check which PowerShape release saved a model and how many solids it holds
- Find the right .psmodel in a folder of mould or tooling jobs
- Save the model’s preview as a PNG, JPG or PDF for an email or a quote
- Confirm a file is a PowerShape model before asking the sender for a STEP export
Features
PowerShape .psmodel Models
PowerShape and PowerSHAPE models, recognised by the streams inside their compound file whatever their name.
The Stored Preview
The thumbnail PowerShape saves inside every model, shown at its own pixel size.
Labelled as the Preview
The status line says the picture is the preview PowerShape stored, so nobody mistakes it for the 3D model.
Model Facts
The PowerShape release that saved the model and the number of solids it holds are shown under the picture.
Clear Notices
A model saved without a thumbnail gets a notice naming the PowerShape exports (STEP, IGES, Parasolid, STL) that open here as full geometry.
Export to PNG, JPG or PDF
Save the preview from the Export menu for an email, a quote or a job sheet.
No PowerShape Needed
An in-house reader of the PowerShape container that runs in your browser. Nothing to install.
Nothing Is Uploaded
The file is read entirely in your browser. No account, no upload, no copy of your file on a server.
Compatibility & Format Notes
The viewer recognises a PowerShape model by the streams inside its compound file (the document header, the Parasolid partition index and PowerShape’s object tables), whatever the file is called, and reads the standard summary information for the thumbnail and the release name, and the partition index for the number of solids.
The picture shown is the thumbnail PowerShape saved, usually 200 by 200 pixels, so zooming shows its pixels. The status line says it is the preview. A model saved without a thumbnail gets a notice naming the exports that open here.
The solids, surfaces, curves and their dimensions are enciphered by PowerShape and are not drawn, so nothing can be rotated or measured. Nothing is sent to a server.

Your Files Stay on Your Computer
Your PowerShape files are parsed entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or shared unless you explicitly click the Share button. Shared files are hosted for 90 days then deleted.
Frequently Asked Questions
▶How do I open a .psmodel file without PowerShape?
Drop the .psmodel file on this page. The viewer reads it in your browser and shows the preview picture PowerShape saved inside it, with the PowerShape release and the number of solids, on Windows, a Mac, a Chromebook, Linux or a phone alike.
▶Why can I not rotate the model?
PowerShape stores its solids and surfaces enciphered, in a form only PowerShape reads, so the viewer shows the thumbnail the file carries. For the 3D model, ask for (or make) a STEP, IGES, Parasolid or STL export from PowerShape: those open here as full geometry.
▶How do I export a PowerShape model to STEP or STL?
In PowerShape, use File, Export and choose STEP, IGES or Parasolid for the exact solids and surfaces, or STL for a triangle mesh. Then drop that file on this page.
▶My file opens with a notice and no picture. Why?
The model was saved without its thumbnail. The notice names the exports that open here; save one from PowerShape and upload it.
▶Is this PowerShape viewer really free?
Yes, completely free. No signup, no watermarks, no file size limits on the viewer (the optional share-link feature has a 100 MB upload cap). Built by Innerscene as a tool for architects, engineers, and designers.
▶Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. All parsing, rendering, and conversion runs in your browser: nothing is uploaded, stored, or transmitted by default. The Share button is the only feature that uploads a file, and only when you explicitly click it.
▶Can I convert to another format?
Yes, to image formats. Click Export in the toolbar to save the preview as a PNG, a JPG or a PDF. The viewer does not write PowerShape files.
▶Can I embed this viewer on my own site?
Yes. Click Embed in the toolbar to generate a one-line <iframe> snippet you can paste into any HTML page. You can choose whether the embed shows the viewer’s toolbar.
