What Is a Font File?
TrueType and OpenType are the font formats that ship with Windows, macOS and every phone, and WOFF is the compressed copy of one that websites load. Each file holds the glyph outlines, the table that maps characters to glyphs, the spacing and kerning, and the font’s name, designer and licence.
The viewer reads the file in your browser and lays out a specimen sheet the way a font manager does. The font’s name is set in the font itself, followed by its details (family, style, version, designer, glyph count, licence), the alphabet and digits, a pangram at seven sizes, and a character map of every glyph the font maps, each cell labelled with its Unicode code point. Glyphs are drawn as vector outlines, so they stay sharp at any zoom.
The sheet exports like any drawing, for example to PDF, PNG or DXF.
Who Uses Font Files?
Designers, developers, sign makers and anyone sent a font file check what a typeface looks like, which characters it covers and what its licence says before installing it, and without installing it.
Common Use Cases
- Preview a font before installing it, with no installer and no desktop app
- Check whether a font covers the accents, symbols or scripts a project needs
- Find the code point of a glyph, or the glyph for a code point
- Read a font’s name, designer, version and licence from the file
- Compare sizes of one typeface in the waterfall
- Save the specimen sheet as a PDF or PNG to share with a client

Compatibility & Format Notes
What is drawn: TrueType and OpenType fonts with TrueType or PostScript (CFF) outlines, and WOFF files. The sheet shows up to 1,536 characters in code point order; a font that maps no characters shows its glyphs by number.
Files: fonts are recognised by their content, so a renamed file still opens. WOFF2 web fonts (Brotli-compressed) and .ttc collections are not read; convert a WOFF2 to .ttf, or extract one font from a collection, and upload that.
Not shown: hinting, colour glyphs and variable-font axes. Variable fonts show their default instance.
Embed on Your Website
Add this viewer to your own site with a single line of HTML. Click Embed in the toolbar to generate an embed code, or use the snippet below with your own file URL.
Your Files Stay on Your Computer
Your Font files are parsed entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or shared unless you explicitly click the Share button. Shared files are hosted for 90 days then deleted.
Frequently Asked Questions
▶Does this install the font?
No. The font is read in your browser and drawn as outlines. Nothing is installed on your computer, and nothing is uploaded.
▶Which font formats open?
TrueType (.ttf), OpenType (.otf) and WOFF (.woff). WOFF2 and .ttc collections are declined with a note on how to convert them.
▶Can I see a glyph’s Unicode code point?
Yes. The character map labels every cell with its code point, such as U+0041, in code point order.
▶Is this Font viewer really free?
Yes, completely free. No signup, no watermarks, no file size limits on the viewer (the optional share-link feature has a 100 MB upload cap). Built by Innerscene as a tool for architects, engineers, and designers.
▶Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. All parsing, rendering, and conversion runs in your browser: nothing is uploaded, stored, or transmitted by default. The Share button is the only feature that uploads a file, and only when you explicitly click it.
▶Can I convert to another format?
Yes. Click Export in the toolbar. The specimen sheet saves as PDF, DXF, SVG, PNG or JPG.
▶Can I embed this viewer on my own site?
Yes. Click Embed in the toolbar to generate a one-line <iframe> snippet you can paste into any HTML page. You can choose whether the embed shows the viewer’s toolbar.
