What Is a PowerPoint File?
A .pptx file is an Office Open XML package, a ZIP archive whose parts are XML. Each slide is its own part under ppt/slides/, listing the shapes on it: text boxes, pictures, preset shapes and freeforms, tables, charts and SmartArt, each with its position and size. What a slide leaves out comes from its layout and the slide master: a title placeholder takes its position, font and colour from there, and the colours and fonts named by the theme resolve through ppt/theme/. A .ppsx is the same package saved to open as a slide show, a .potx is a template, and a .pptm carries macros.
This viewer reads that package in your browser and draws each slide as a page: text with its fonts, sizes, colours, bullets and numbering through the master and layout cascade; shapes with their fills, gradients, outlines and arrow heads; pictures, including the EMF and WMF drawings Office pastes; tables with their table style and merged cells; and the slide background. Charts are drawn from the values PowerPoint stores with them, and SmartArt from the drawing PowerPoint keeps for it, both marked as approximate.
A slide is shown without scripts and without loading anything from the internet, in a locked-down frame. Since PowerPoint can also hold 3D models (Insert > 3D Models), a deck that carries one opens as the model in the 3D view, with the slides one click away. Who Uses PowerPoint Files?
Everyone who presents: project updates and design reviews, bids and proposals, product and sales decks, lectures and training. Decks arrive as email attachments on devices with no copy of PowerPoint (a phone, a Chromebook, a locked-down work machine), and product teams send decks with 3D models of a design inside them. What is drawn: text with run formatting (font, size, bold, italic, underline, colour, highlight), bullets and numbering, alignment, indents and spacing; placeholders with the position and style they inherit from the layout and master; preset shapes and freeforms with solid and gradient fills and dashed outlines with arrow heads; groups, rotation and flips; pictures with their cropping, including EMF and WMF; tables with their table style, borders, fills and merged cells; slide backgrounds; charts from their cached values (columns, bars, lines, areas, pies, doughnuts, scatter); SmartArt from its cached drawing; and the still picture of an embedded object, video or 3D model.
Files: .pptx, .pptm, .ppsx and .potx written by PowerPoint 2007 and later, Google Slides, Keynote and LibreOffice Impress. Hidden slides are listed and marked. Macros are never run. The legacy binary .ppt is a different format: save it as .pptx first.
Not shown: animations and transitions, audio and video playback, speaker notes, shadows, glow and 3D effects on shapes, and WordArt effects. Fonts the device does not have fall back to a similar face, which can move a line break.

▶Do I need PowerPoint installed?
No. The viewer reads the deck with its own reader, in your browser. Nothing from Microsoft needs to be installed, and no account is needed.
▶Why does my chart look a little different?
A chart is drawn from the numbers PowerPoint stores with it: the bars, lines and slices, the categories, the value scale and the legend. Chart styling such as data labels, 3D effects and custom axis settings is not read, so the chart is marked with a small ≈ badge. SmartArt is drawn from the drawing PowerPoint keeps for it and is marked the same way.
▶My deck has a 3D model in it. Can I see it?
Yes. PowerPoint stores an inserted 3D model as a glTF binary inside the deck, and the viewer opens that model in the 3D view, where you can orbit, measure and export it. The file picker at the top lists each model and the slides, so the deck is one click away.
▶Why does my .ppt file not open?
A .ppt is the binary format PowerPoint used before 2007 and shares nothing with the .pptx package this viewer reads. Open it in PowerPoint, Google Slides or LibreOffice Impress, save it as .pptx, and upload that copy.
▶Is a deck with macros safe to open here?
Yes. A .pptm keeps its macros in a separate part, which the viewer never reads or runs. Each slide is shown with scripts switched off and nothing loaded from the internet.
▶Is this PowerPoint viewer really free?
Yes, completely free. No signup, no watermarks, no file size limits on the viewer (the optional share-link feature has a 100 MB upload cap). Built by Innerscene as a tool for architects, engineers, and designers.
▶Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. All parsing, rendering, and conversion runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded, stored, or transmitted by default. The Share button is the only feature that uploads a file, and only when you explicitly click it.
▶Can I convert to another format?
A deck has no 3D geometry to convert, so the export menu saves the slide on screen as a PNG or JPG, or the whole deck as one self-contained HTML page with every slide and no script. A deck that carries a 3D model exports that model like any other: GLB, OBJ, STL, STEP and more.
▶Can I embed this viewer on my own site?
