What Is a Shimadzu LabSolutions GC Data File?
Shimadzu LabSolutions (and GCsolution before it) saves every GC run as a .gcd data file. It keeps the raw detector signal (an FID, TCD, ECD or other detector, one trace per channel), the instrument’s own traces during the run (column oven temperature, carrier gas pressure and flow), the sample information, the method that was used and the results of its peak integration and quantitation.
The viewer reads the file in your browser and lays it out as a report: the sample name, ID, vial, acquisition time, method, instrument and LabSolutions version; the chromatogram against retention time in minutes, in the detector’s own units, with the compounds of the method marked by name; a strip for each instrument trace that changes during the run; and the compound results table with areas, heights and concentrations in the units the method uses.
GenCAD circuit board files also use .gcd; the viewer tells the two apart by their content. The report saves as PDF, PNG or SVG.
Who Uses Shimadzu LabSolutions GC Data Files?
Quality-control and research laboratories running Shimadzu gas chromatographs (GC-2030 Nexis, GC-2010, GC-2014 and others) for residual solvents in packaging, food and flavour analysis, essential oils, environmental and petrochemical testing, and the customers, suppliers and auditors who are sent a .gcd file without LabSolutions to open it.
Common Use Cases
- Look at a chromatogram a laboratory sent as a .gcd file
- Check which compounds a run found and their concentrations without a LabSolutions licence
- Compare the oven program and carrier pressure of a run with the method
- Save a run as a PDF report to attach to a quality record
- Open an old GC run from an archive on a computer without LabSolutions
Features
Opens .gcd Files
GC runs saved by Shimadzu LabSolutions, also inside a .zip.
The Chromatogram
Every detector channel against retention time in minutes, in its own units, with every data point.
Compounds by Name
The compounds of the method marked by name on the chromatogram.
Results Table
Area, height and concentration of every compound, in the units the method uses.
Instrument Traces
Oven temperature, carrier pressure and flows that change during the run, each in its own strip.
Sample Details
Sample name, ID, vial, acquisition time, method, instrument and LabSolutions version.
Not a GenCAD File
LabSolutions runs and GenCAD boards share .gcd; each is recognised by its content and opens as what it is.
Save as PDF or PNG
Save the report as a PDF for a quality record, or as SVG, PNG or JPG.
Nothing Is Uploaded
The file is read and drawn entirely in your browser. No account, no upload, no copy of your data on a server.
Share and Embed
Send a link that opens the chromatogram in any browser, or drop the viewer into your own page with one iframe.
Compatibility & Format Notes
What is read: .gcd files from LabSolutions GC: every detector channel, the instrument status traces, the sample information (name, ID, type, vial, acquisition time), the method file name, the instrument model, the peak table (each integrated peak with its baseline), the compound table and the compound results (area, height, concentration and its unit).
Layout: the report is laid out by the viewer, so it differs from the report format set up in LabSolutions. Each integrated peak is drawn with its baseline, and each compound is bracketed over the peaks its result adds up (one peak, or every peak in a band).
Not shown: calibration curves, and photodiode-array or mass spectrometer data (LC .lcd and GC-MS .qgd files keep their detector data in other forms; the viewer names them and says how to export).

Your Files Stay on Your Computer
Your Shimadzu LabSolutions GC Data files are parsed entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or shared unless you explicitly click the Share button. Shared files are hosted for 90 days then deleted.
Frequently Asked Questions
▶Do I need LabSolutions to open a .gcd file?
No. The file is read in your browser, so the chromatogram opens on any computer, tablet or phone with nothing installed.
▶My .gcd file is a GenCAD circuit board. Will it open?
Yes. GenCAD board files are text and LabSolutions files are not; the viewer tells them apart by their content, and a GenCAD file opens in the GenCAD viewer as a board.
▶Is this LabSolutions viewer really free?
Yes, completely free. No signup, no watermarks, no file size limits on the viewer (the optional share-link feature has a 100 MB upload cap). Built by Innerscene as a tool for architects, engineers, and designers.
▶Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. All parsing, rendering, and conversion runs in your browser: nothing is uploaded, stored, or transmitted by default. The Share button is the only feature that uploads a file, and only when you explicitly click it.
▶Can I convert to another format?
Yes. Click Export in the toolbar. The chromatogram report saves as PDF, SVG, PNG or JPG.
▶Can I embed this viewer on my own site?
Yes. Click Embed in the toolbar to generate a one-line <iframe> snippet you can paste into any HTML page. You can choose whether the embed shows the viewer’s toolbar.
