FormatExtensionCategoryDescription
7-Zip Archive.7zarchiveA 7-Zip archive of models or drawings. The viewer lists the archive, opens the model inside and offers the other entries from a picker.
Digitally Signed File (P7M).p7m, .p7s, .tsdarchiveDigitally signed files (.p7m, the Italian CAdES signature, and .tsd time-stamped files): the signed file is taken out of its CMS envelope, DER or BER, base64 or PEM text, signed once or several times (.p7m.p7m), and opens under its own name in the matching reader, such as a signed PDF, a DWG, DWF or DXF drawing, an IFC model or an XML invoice. The signer’s name and the signing time are shown when the certificate carries them. The signature is not verified. A detached .p7s holds no signed file, and the viewer says so.
Email Message.msg, .emlarchiveEmail messages saved from Outlook (.msg) or any other mail app (.eml), opened like an archive of their attachments: an attached 3D model or CAD file opens first, then an attached zip or forwarded message, then a document. The file picker lists every attachment and the message itself, which shows as a page with its header, body and inline pictures, without scripts or anything from the internet.
RAR Archive.rararchiveA RAR archive of models or drawings. The viewer lists the archive, opens the model inside and offers the other entries from a picker.
SketchUp LayOut.layoutarchiveA SketchUp LayOut page-layout document (.layout). The viewer extracts the embedded SketchUp model and renders it.
TAR / Compressed Archive.tar, .tgz, .tbz2, .tbz, .txz, .gz, .bz2, .xz, .cpio, .cpgzarchiveTAR archives and their compressed forms (.tgz, .tar.gz, .tar.bz2, .tar.xz), or a single gzipped model. The viewer opens the model inside.
Zipped Model.ziparchiveA model file zipped for email or download (e.g. OBJ + MTL). The viewer opens the archive and loads the model inside.
3D XML (Dassault).3dxmlcadDassault 3D XML packages (.3dxml): the product structure with every assembly, sub-assembly and placed part, drawn from the tessellated faces and edges of the XML shape files in their saved colours and applied material colours, in millimetres, and the binary CGR tessellation that 2005-2006 CATIA V5 packages carry. Shapes stored in Dassault’s newer binary representation are counted and left out.
ACIS (SAT/SAB).sat, .sab, .asat, .asabcadACIS models (.sat text, .sab binary, and Autodesk’s .asat / .asab): the exact B-rep, read and tessellated in the browser. Planes, cylinders, cones, spheres, tori and NURBS faces are trimmed by their edges, every body becomes a part in its own colour, and the units come from the file. Versions from ACIS 1 to 2023 and Autodesk’s ASM dialect are read.
ArtCAM model or relief.rlf, .artcadArtCAM reliefs (.rlf): the height of every pixel as one smooth surface at the relief’s real size and position, in millimetres or inches, lying flat as on the machine bed and closed with sides and a base, ready to export as STL or 3MF. Very large reliefs are averaged to about 1.5 million points. ArtCAM models (.art, see /tools/art-viewer) open with their relief drawn the same way and the model’s bitmap laid over it, or the bitmap on a flat board when the relief is flat; their vectors are stored encrypted and are not shown, and a model with nothing else drawable shows the preview picture ArtCAM saved.
Autodesk Fusion.f3d, .f3zcadAutodesk Fusion designs (.f3d, and the root design of a .f3z): current saves drawn from the display mesh Fusion stores, older ones from their exact Shape Manager solid bodies tessellated in the browser; every body placed by its component occurrences, with hidden bodies and occurrences on a layer that starts switched off, in centimetres.
Autodesk Inventor.ipt, .iam, .idwcadAutodesk Inventor parts and assemblies (.ipt / .iam), drawn from the display mesh Inventor saves inside the document: every face of every body in its colour, and in an assembly every occurrence placed where the assembly has it, in centimetres, the right way up. Parts with no bodies open to a notice with their own thumbnail; an assembly saved without its display cache opens from the part files uploaded with it. Drawings (.idw) open as the sheet picture Inventor saved in them.
Autodesk Navisworks.nwd, .nwccadAutodesk Navisworks published models and model caches (.nwd / .nwc): every placed part drawn from the tessellated shapes Navisworks stores, at its saved position, in its material colour, with grid and centre lines as lines. Shapes used many times are decoded once. A project file (.nwf) opens with the linked models uploaded with it.
Autodesk PowerShape model.psmodelcadAutodesk PowerShape models (.psmodel), formerly Delcam PowerSHAPE: the thumbnail PowerShape saves inside the model, labelled as the preview, with the PowerShape release and the number of solids. PowerShape stores the solids and surfaces themselves enciphered, so they are not drawn; a STEP, IGES, Parasolid or STL export from PowerShape opens here as full geometry.
Autodesk Revit.rvt, .rfa, .rftcadNative Revit projects and loadable families (Revit 2010 and later). The element database is read directly and the model is rebuilt from Revit’s own computed solids: walls with their joins and door/window openings cut, floors, roofs, ceilings, stairs, railings, columns, structural framing, and placed family instances (each rebuilt from its family symbol and placement), grouped into per-category layers. A .rfa opens as the component itself, about its own origin. Curved surfaces fall back to parametric reconstruction where possible; a Revit file stores no mesh geometry at all, so anything beyond these types still renders best from an IFC export.
Bazis furniture model.b3d, .f3dcadBazis-Mebelshchik furniture models (.b3d, .f3d saved by Bazis): every sheet panel of the cabinet, extruded from its outline to its board thickness, placed and rotated where the designer put it and coloured by its board (beech, white, grey and the like), in millimetres. Edge banding, drilling and hardware are not drawn; a file that holds only a fitting keeps the notice with its export advice.
CityGML city model.gmlcadCityGML 3D city models (1.0, 2.0 and 3.0; .gml or .xml, also zipped): buildings and building parts, installations and rooms, terrain, roads, railways, bridges, tunnels, water, vegetation and city furniture, each at its highest level of detail, with roof, wall, ground, window and door surfaces in their own colours, appearance materials and textures, grouped by object type with attributes kept. Georeferenced coordinates are recentred, so city-scale models draw without jitter, and exports go back onto the original grid.
CityJSON city model.json, .jsonlcadCityJSON 3D city models (1.0, 1.1 and 2.0; .json or .city.json) and CityJSONSeq streams (.jsonl): every city object at its highest level of detail, with semantic surfaces in their own colours, materials, textures and geometry templates, grouped by object type with attributes kept, on the original grid when exported.
DIALux Project.evo, .dlx, .stfcadDIALux projects (.evo from DIALux evo, .dlx from DIALux 4) and STF room files: rooms with their floors and ceilings, walls with the doors and windows cut out, slabs, roofs, columns, beams, suspended ceilings, furniture and every luminaire as placed, grouped by storey and room, in metres. Each DIALux evo luminaire type’s stored light distribution is drawn as a photometric web on a layer of its own and opens in the IES Viewer.
FreeCAD.fcstd, .fcstd1, .fcbakcadFreeCAD documents (.FCStd, and the .FCStd1 / .FCBak backups): the object tree with its parts, groups and links, every visible object drawn from the OpenCASCADE B-rep FreeCAD stores in the file, in its saved colour, in millimetres. Part files linked from an assembly are asked for by name and drawn in place when added; Mesh workbench meshes draw too.
G-code toolpath.gcode, .gco, .gc, .nc, .ngc, .tap, .cnccadG-code toolpaths from 3D printer slicers, CNC CAM programs and laser software (.gcode, .nc, .ngc, .tap): every move drawn as a line, coloured by height layer by layer, with extrusion or cutting moves grouped by the slicer’s feature types or by tool, travel and rapid moves on their own layer, arcs and drilling cycles followed, inch programs in millimetres. Large files are read as a stream.
gbXML (Green Building XML).gbxmlcadgbXML building energy models (.xml, .gbxml): every surface drawn from its planar geometry with its windows, doors and skylights cut out, coloured by surface type and grouped by space and zone, with surface types and openings as layers, in the file’s units.
Graphisoft Archicad.pln, .placadArchicad PLN projects and PLA archives, read locally in the browser. Tested with Archicad 25, 27 and 29. Renders supported walls with door and window openings cut through them, slabs, pitched roofs, zones, beams, columns, morphs, meshes and terrain, and extracts the saved project preview.
IFC (Building).ifc, .ifcxml, .ifczipcadIFC building information models (BIM): walls, slabs, windows, doors, and MEP, grouped into per-type layers. Tessellated via web-ifc. IFC in its XML encoding (.ifcxml, ifcXML2x3 and ifcXML4) and zipped (.ifczip) opens the same way.
IGES.iges, .igscadIGES/IGS neutral CAD surfaces and B-rep solids (NURBS), tessellated via OpenCASCADE.
JT.jtcadJT files (ISO 14306), and Siemens NX parts (.prt) through the JT display data NX saves inside them: the product structure with every assembly, sub-assembly and placed part, drawn from the most detailed tessellation of each shape in its saved colour and at its saved position, in the file’s units. JT 8, 9 and 10 files open; a multi-file JT assembly places the part files that come with it.
OpenSCAD.scadcadOpenSCAD programs (.scad), run in the browser: modules, functions, loops, list comprehensions and every built-in solid, 2D shape, transform and boolean, with linear and rotate extrusion, offset, hull, minkowski, projection and text in OpenSCAD’s own Liberation fonts. Circles, spheres and cylinders get exactly OpenSCAD’s facets from $fn, $fa and $fs, color() colours each solid, % and # objects show translucent and highlighted, and echo() output is kept. include<> and use<> files and imported STL or OFF solids are read from the same ZIP.
Parasolid.x_t, .x_b, .xmt_txt, .xmt_bincadParasolid transmit files (.x_t / .x_b, .xmt_txt / .xmt_bin): the exact kernel B-rep, in both the text and binary encodings.
PTC Creo View.pvz, .pvs, .olcadPTC Creo View packages (.pvz) and their parts (.ol): the product structure with every assembly, sub-assembly and placed part, drawn from the tessellated faces and edges Creo and Windchill publish, in their saved colours and transparency, in metres. A .pvs structure file opens with its .ol shape files.
Remplanner floor plan.plancadRemplanner flat plans (.plan, the JSON save and the zipped Plan 3.0 save): every wall at its saved height with mitred corners and its door, doorway and window openings cut through it, each room’s floor on a layer named with its area, ceilings on a layer that starts hidden, and furniture and fittings as boxes at their saved size, in centimetres.
Rhino 3D Model.3dmcadRhinoceros NURBS-based CAD models (BReps, SubD, polysurfaces, mesh).
SketchUp Model.skp, .skbcadSketchUp 3D models with faces, components, layers, and materials, and the .skb backups SketchUp saves beside them.
Solid Edge.par, .psm, .dftcadSolid Edge parts and sheet metal (.par / .psm), rendered from the Parasolid B-rep the document embeds, assemblies (.asm) put together from the part files opened with them, and drafts (.dft), drawn sheet by sheet.
Solid Edge Viewer.sevcadSolid Edge Viewer documents (.sev): the display model Solid Edge saves for its viewer, with every part of an assembly in place and in its saved colour, in millimetres.
SolidWorks.slddrw, .sldprt, .sldasmcadSolidWorks parts, assemblies and drawings. A part or assembly (.sldprt, .sldasm) renders as real 3D geometry: the display mesh SolidWorks itself draws, saved in the file as triangle strips per face and decoded here in meters with smooth normals — an assembly arrives already assembled. A drawing (.slddrw) opens as the full-resolution sheet image saved in the file, every view, dimension and title-block field legible, with a picker for each sheet. Documents that embed no geometry (external-component assemblies, by-reference saves) get a plain notice pointing at STEP.
SolidWorks eDrawings.eprt, .easm, .edrw, .hsfcadSolidWorks eDrawings parts, assemblies and drawings (.eprt / .easm / .edrw), drawn from the HOOPS stream (HSF) display model inside the package: every body placed and coloured as saved, in metres, upright from the author’s saved view, with textured appearances and the edge lines stored with each body. Drawings open sheet by sheet in 2D (views, dimensions, notes, title block), with the model as the last sheet-picker entry. A bare .hsf stream opens too.
Spaceman planogram.plncadNielsenIQ Spaceman planograms saved as text (.pln): the shelving section drawn in 3D, with every fixture (base, back panel, shelves) and every product placement as its facings, sized from the product’s dimensions and named with the product and its UPC, in centimetres.
STAAD.Pro model.stdcadSTAAD.Pro structural models (.std input files; SPACE, PLANE, TRUSS and FLOOR): every member extruded between its joints as its section (PRISMATIC rectangles and circles, pipes, tubes, and rolled sections sized from their table names) and turned by its BETA angle, shells as slabs of their thickness, solids as bricks, and supports as markers, with columns, beams, plates and supports on their own layers, in metres, Y up.
STEP (ISO-10303-21).step, .stpcadISO-10303 STEP/STP CAD assemblies (AP203, AP214, AP242).
Sweet Home 3D.sh3dcadSweet Home 3D homes, built in 3D: walls from the plan with their corners joined and the openings their doors and windows cut, room floors (and ceilings, on a layer that starts hidden), and every placed piece of furniture, door, window and light with its own model, colours and textures, level by level. Reads Home.xml and, for files saved by versions older than 5.3, the serialized home.
Unreal Datasmith.udatasmith, .udsmeshcadUnreal Datasmith scenes (.udatasmith) with the .udsmesh meshes and textures of their _Assets folder, as a .zip or picked together: every mesh actor placed by its transform with its materials and textures, instanced meshes shared, lights and cameras as markers, the scene’s layers, in metres. A .udsmesh opens on its own too. Meshes compressed with Oodle (Datasmith 4.27 and later) are drawn as boxes of their recorded size.

OpenDocument Text.odt, .ott, .fodt, .odm, .sxw, .stwdocumentOpenDocument text documents from LibreOffice and OpenOffice Writer (.odt, .ott templates, flat .fodt, OpenOffice.org 1.x .sxw), also written by Google Docs, Word and Collabora. Read in the browser and laid out by the Word reader at the document’s page size and margins: paragraph and character styles, headings with their outline numbers, numbered and bulleted lists, tables with merged cells, cell borders, fills and padding, pictures, text boxes, page breaks, headers and footers, and footnotes listed after the text. Editable like a Word document and saved as .docx or PDF. Drawn shapes and charts are not shown; a password-protected document says so.
PowerPoint Presentation.pptx, .pptm, .ppsx, .ppsm, .potx, .potmdocumentPowerPoint decks (.pptx, .pptm, .ppsx, .potx) shown slide by slide from a slide picker, drawn with their layouts and master: text with its fonts, bullets and numbering, shapes, pictures (EMF and WMF included), tables and backgrounds, shown without scripts or anything from the internet. Charts and SmartArt are drawn approximately. A deck carrying a 3D model opens the model in 3D.

Every stitch of the other formats is drawn in sewing order as the thread lays it, jumps and trims left out, with each thread on its own layer in its colour (from the thread list or thread chart the file stores; DST and EXP store none, so their threads get stand-in colours). The status line gives the stitch count and the threads.
EPS / PostScript.eps, .epsf, .epsi, .psdrawingEncapsulated PostScript and PostScript: text EPS, binary (DOS) EPS with a TIFF or WMF preview, EPSI and .ps documents (first page). The PostScript is followed in the browser, prolog procedures included, and drawn as vector paths, fills, strokes, dashes, clipping, text and embedded images on its own page at its real size. When it cannot be followed, the preview the file embeds is shown and labelled as a preview.
Esri Shapefile.shpdrawingEsri shapefile GIS vector data: parcels, roads, boundaries, and 3D multipatch buildings. Opens a bare .shp, or a .zip of the whole set (.shp + .shx + .dbf + .prj) with real units from the .prj.
Font.ttf, .otf, .woff, .woff2, .ttcdrawingFont files (.ttf, .otf, .woff): a specimen sheet with the name set in its own letters, the font’s details, sample lines, a size waterfall and a character map of every glyph with its code point, drawn as vector outlines.
GenCAD (PCB board).cad, .gcd, .gencaddrawingGenCAD board files (.cad, .gcd), including laptop and phone repair boardviews: the board outline, copper tracks at their widths on every routed layer, every pad of every placed part, vias and drill holes, component outlines and silkscreen, and each part’s reference designator, top and bottom, in millimetres.
Gerber (PCB Fabrication).gbr, .ger, .gtl, .gbl, .gts, .gbs, .gto, .gbo, .gtp, .gbp, .gko, .gm1, .drl, .xln, .exc, .drddrawingGerber (RS-274X / X2) and Excellon drill data: the files a printed circuit board is fabricated from. Drop the whole fab package as a .zip and the board is stacked up layer by layer, in fabrication order, with copper, solder mask, silkscreen, paste, outline and drill holes on their own toggles. Layers are identified from their X2 file-function attributes or their filenames, and layer files are recognised by their contents, so a package whose layers are named .art, .001 or nothing at all still opens. Aperture macros, thermals, step & repeat, block apertures, regions, arcs, clear polarity and both zero-suppression conventions are all read.
Gerber AccuMark pattern.tmpdrawingGerber AccuMark pattern exports (the .zip of piece records AccuMark writes for a storage area): every pattern piece drawn flat in its base size, with its seam and cut lines, internal lines, grain line, notches and piece name, the pieces laid out side by side.
Global Mapper package.gmpdrawingGlobal Mapper packages (.gmp): the vector layers of a saved Global Mapper workspace, such as contour lines, roads, boundaries and survey points, drawn as a real-world-scale map with one layer per package layer, in the units of the package’s projection.
GML geographic data.gmldrawingGML geographic data (.gml, GML 2, 3.1 and 3.2): the features of any application schema, such as WFS downloads, INSPIRE and cadastral exports, PCRS plans and StaR-DT network answers to DT-DICT requests, drawn as a real-world-scale map with one layer per feature type: points, lines, arcs and areas, in 3-D when the coordinates carry heights. Lambert-93, UTM and other projected grids read in metres and latitude/longitude is projected, and exports go back onto the original grid.
Google Earth KML / KMZ.kml, .kmzdrawingGoogle Earth placemarks: property boundaries, survey points, routes, GPS tracks and My Maps exports, drawn as a real-world-scale map. Opens a .kml, or a .kmz with no 3D model inside (a .kmz carrying a COLLADA model opens as that model). Folders become layers, placemark names are drawn as labels, and each style’s line and fill colors carry over; placemarks with altitude open in 3D.
LPKF CircuitPro.cbfdrawingLPKF CircuitPro job files: a circuit board after it has been imported into the CAM software that drives LPKF’s board plotters and laser systems, and laid out on the machine bed. The job’s own layers (board outline, copper, silkscreen, solder mask and paste, rubout, pockets, plated and unplated drilling, fiducials) and every film imported into it are read, with each trace stroked at its aperture’s diameter and each pad flashed with the aperture outline the file stores, so the board draws exactly as it would be milled. Layers are stacked in fabrication order and colored by role, the same way an uploaded Gerber package is.
NoteWorthy Composer score.nwc, .nwctxtdrawingNoteWorthy Composer scores (.nwc from version 1.30 to 2.75, compressed or not, and .nwctxt text): engraved as sheet music with the title, every staff with its clefs, key and time signatures, notes, rests, beams, ties, slurs, dynamics, tempo and text, and the lyrics under their notes in the language they were written in.
PDF Document.pdfdrawingPDF documents and plot sheets read page by page, drawn as you scroll so long documents open in about a second, with thumbnails, bookmarks, links, find and text selection. Forms fill in (with their calculations, and XFA forms too), documents can be signed with a drawn, typed or uploaded signature, text can be changed or added, and the result downloads or prints with your changes. Plot sheets stay sharp at any zoom, and password-protected files open for reading.
Shimadzu LabSolutions chromatogram.gcddrawingShimadzu LabSolutions GC data files (.gcd): a chromatogram report with the sample details, the detector trace against retention time, the method’s compounds marked by name, oven temperature and pressure traces, and the compound results table with areas, heights and concentrations.
Silhouette Studio design.studio3drawingSilhouette Studio designs for Silhouette cutting machines (Cameo, Portrait, Curio): every cut path drawn as placed on the page, curves included, in millimetres, with the page outline. A design whose paths can’t be read shows the preview image the file stores.

Background pages draw under the pages that use them, and a stencil shows its master shapes on one sheet.
Windows Metafile (EMF, WMF).emf, .wmf, .emz, .wmzdrawingWindows metafiles: Enhanced Metafiles (.emf, with their EMF+ records), Windows Metafiles (.wmf, placeable or bare) and the gzip-compressed .emz and .wmz. The picture is replayed record by record into vector lines, fills, gradients, text and embedded images on its own page, at its own size in millimetres, clipping included.
Affinity document.af, .afdesign, .afphoto, .afpubimageSerif Affinity documents: Affinity Designer (.afdesign), Affinity Photo (.afphoto), Affinity Publisher (.afpub) and the unified Affinity app (.af). The preview picture Affinity saves inside every document (the first page or spread, at full size) is shown and labelled as the preview, with the app version and page count. The editable vector artwork, pixel layers and text are in Affinity’s own format and are not drawn.
Apple PICT Picture.pict, .pctimageApple QuickDraw PICT pictures (.pict, .pct, and .pic by content), version 1 and 2, with or without the 512-byte header: bitmaps and pixel maps (1, 2, 4 and 8-bit indexed, 16 and 32-bit colour, PackBits or plain), QuickTime JPEG, PNG and GIF pictures placed where the PICT draws them, and lines, rectangles, ovals and polygons in their colour. High-resolution scans are drawn at their bitmap resolution. The picture format of classic Mac OS: clip art, CD-ROM artwork, scans and pictures from old QuarkXPress, PageMaker and ClarisWorks documents.
AVIF Image.avif, .avifsimageAVIF raster image: an AV1-compressed still, common on photo sites and modern phones.
BMP Image.bmp, .dibimageWindows BMP raster image (uncompressed device-independent bitmap).
GIF Image.gifimageGIF raster image: indexed-color bitmap. Animations show their first frame.
HEIC / HEIF Image.heic, .heif, .hifimageHEIC/HEIF photo, the iPhone camera default. Decodes in Safari; other browsers need it saved as JPEG first.
JPEG Image.jpg, .jpegimageJPEG raster image — lossy compressed photograph.
OpenEXR Image.exrimageOpenEXR high-dynamic-range image: PBR textures (normal, roughness, displacement maps), HDRI environment maps and render passes. Decoded in the browser, scanline or tiled, half or float, with ZIP, PIZ, PXR24, DWAA, DWAB or RLE compression. Colour images are tone-mapped with automatic exposure; normal maps and other data are shown as their stored values. Multi-part files and named layers (beauty, depth, normals) each open from a layer picker, and the status line lists the channels, pixel type and compression.
Photoshop Document.psd, .psbimagePhotoshop documents (.psd) and large documents (.psb): the flattened image the file stores, in RGB, CMYK, Grayscale, Indexed, Lab, Bitmap or Duotone at 8, 16 or 32 bits. Files saved without that image show their visible layers laid over each other, or the thumbnail. Every pixel layer is listed in the layer panel and can be shown on its own.
PNG Image.pngimagePNG raster image — lossless bitmap with transparency.
Radiance HDR Image.hdrimageRadiance HDR (RGBE) high-dynamic-range image, the usual download format for HDRI environment maps and the output of the Radiance lighting simulator. Tone-mapped for display with automatic exposure; a .pic Radiance render opens too.
SketchUp Material.skmimageA SketchUp material (.skm) saved from the Materials panel. It holds no geometry: the viewer opens the texture image the material paints with, full size, and names the material on the status line. A colour-only material is named with its colour.
TI Workbench Image.dtf, .dtsimageTI Workbench image data (.dtf full frames, .dts sequences): the first microscope camera frame, plain or Huffman compressed, 8 or 16-bit, sized from the camera region and binning and shown in grey with automatic contrast, with the objective and data id in the status line.
TIFF Image.tif, .tiffimageTIFF raster image, the scanner and print archive format. Decodes in Safari; other browsers need it saved as JPEG first.
Truevision TGA Image.tga, .tpic, .icb, .vdaimageTruevision TGA (Targa) images (.tga, also .tpic, .icb and .vda): true-colour, greyscale and colour-mapped pictures, plain or RLE compressed, at 8, 15, 16, 24 or 32 bits per pixel, in any origin, with their alpha channel (premultiplied alpha included). The usual texture format of games, Blender, 3ds Max and Maya, and of old Targa renders and scans.
WebP Image.webpimageWebP raster image, the compact web format from Google.
3D Manufacturing.3mfmesh3D Manufacturing Format — modern STL replacement for 3D printing.
3D Studio.3dsmeshLegacy Autodesk 3D Studio binary mesh format.
Autodesk 3ds Max.maxmeshNative Autodesk 3ds Max scenes. Reads collapsed Editable Poly / Editable Mesh geometry, parametric primitives, splines swept by an Extrude or Lathe, the object hierarchy with instancing, layers, and material colors. Geometry that only exists through other live modifiers, NURBS/patch surfaces, and external V-Ray/Corona proxy meshes cannot be recovered from the file.
Autodesk FBX.fbxmeshAutodesk FBX — game-engine asset pipeline standard.
Blender.blend, .blend1, .blend2meshNative Blender scenes, every version from 1.6 in 1996 to 5.x — fifty-eight releases, both byte orders. Reads the mesh geometry the file stores — vertices, faces, UVs, vertex colours, flat/smooth shading and per-face material slots — placed by each object’s transform, with collections as layers and collection instances expanded. Materials come from the Principled BSDF in each material’s node tree, including packed image textures. Mirror, Array, Solidify and Subdivision Surface modifiers and saved armature poses are evaluated; shapes from Geometry Nodes, Boolean and other generators render as their stored base mesh.
Blitz3D model.b3dmeshBlitz3D models (.b3d, as games such as SCP - Containment Breach ship them): every mesh placed through its node tree in its brush colours and textures, skinned to its bones in the rest pose, with its animation sequences as clips to play. Textures come from the images uploaded with the model.
Cinema 4D.c4d, .lib4dmeshCinema 4D scenes (.c4d, R12 to 2025): polygon objects with their UVs and materials, splines as lines, primitives and spline primitives rebuilt from their settings, and Extrude, Lathe, Sweep, Loft, Boolean, Symmetry, Array, Cloner and Subdivision Surface rebuilt, placed through the object tree, in centimetres. Textures draw from a scene zipped with its tex folder; deformers, proxies and other generators are named in a note.
COLLADA.daemeshCOLLADA XML scene format with materials and animation.
glTF Binary.glbmeshglTF binary — PBR materials, textures, animations, single-file.
glTF JSON.gltfmeshglTF JSON manifest with external .bin and image siblings.
GLW level.glwmeshBlitz3D levels (.glw): the terrain built from its heightmap with its colour map, the models placed from the .b3d files uploaded with it, sprites, and markers for spawn points, lights and sounds, with trigger volumes and planes on their own layers and key-framed movement to play. A level opened alone draws stand-ins and asks for the files it names.
GTA V model (RAGE resource).ydr, .ydd, .yft, .ytd, .rpfmeshGTA V models as the PC release stores them (.ydr drawables, .ydd dictionaries such as clothing, .yft fragments such as vehicles): every mesh at its most detailed level, upright, in metres, with the diffuse textures from the model and from a .ytd zipped with it. A .ytd alone opens as a sheet of its textures.
L3D Luminaire Geometry.l3dmeshL3D luminaire geometry (Luminaire 3D, the 3D part of GLDF): every OBJ part placed and jointed as structure.xml says, in metres, with its material colours, the light-emitting surfaces glowing and the light-emitting objects outlined on their own layers.
LightWave object / scene.lwo, .lwsmeshLightWave 3D objects (.lwo) and scenes (.lws). An object opens with every layer’s polygons in metres (LWO2 and LWO3 from LightWave 6 to 2020, and LightWave 5 LWOB/LWLO), subdivision surfaces smoothed, each surface’s colour, shine, glow and transparency, and its UV-mapped or projected image textures from the pictures uploaded with it, one layer each. A scene places the objects it loads where Layout puts them (position, heading, pitch, bank, scale, pivot and parenting at the first frame): add the .lwo files it names, picked with the scene, zipped with it, or dropped on it afterwards.
PES model (Konami .model).modelmeshPro Evolution Soccer models (.model) from the PC game, bare or in Konami’s WESYS compressed wrapper: club emblems, trophies, boots and other small models, every mesh with its normals and UVs, upright as the game keeps them, textured from the image the model names when it comes with it in a .zip (.dds, .png or .jpg).
PlayStation 2 memory card.ps2, .mcd, .mc2, .psumeshPlayStation 2 memory cards (PCSX2 .ps2, .mcd and MemCard PRO .mc2 card images) and single-save .psu exports: every save on the card listed by its title, and each save’s 3D icon (the little model the console spins beside it in the browser) drawn with its texture, in a row in card order, with icon animations to play. Saves without an icon of their own, such as the console’s system folders, are listed by name.
Polygon File Format.plymeshPolygon File Format for 3D scanning, with vertex colors.
PRC (Product Representation Compact).prcmeshPRC models (.prc, ISO 14739-1), the model format inside Adobe 3D PDFs, opened on their own or straight out of the PDF: the assembly tree with every part placed under its name, the triangle meshes PRC stores (the compressed meshes Acrobat writes rebuilt exactly), wire edges as lines, colours from the file’s styles and materials, in the file’s units, turned upright from Z up. Exact B-rep surfaces are not evaluated, so a file with no meshes shows nothing.
Prisma3D project.prismameshPrisma3D projects (.prisma, exported from the Android app): every object’s polygon mesh placed, turned and scaled as saved, objects grouped under their parents, each face in its material’s colour, in metres.
RenderWare model (GTA DFF).dff, .txdmeshGTA III, Vice City and San Andreas models as the PC releases store them (RenderWare .dff): every atomic placed through its frame hierarchy, upright, in metres, with its material colours, textured from a .txd zipped or dropped with it, or from images named like its textures. Vehicle damage and low-detail parts sit on hidden layers. A .txd alone opens as a sheet of its textures.
Shockwave 3D.w3dmeshShockwave 3D scenes (.w3d) from Macromedia and Adobe Director: every model placed through its node tree, progressive meshes decoded to full resolution with normals and texture coordinates, each shader slot’s diffuse colour, opacity and reflectivity, and JPEG textures with their alpha, turned upright from Director’s Z up. Each top-level group is a layer. Animation, lights, cameras and Lingo are not read.
Shockwave Director movie.dcr, .dir, .dxr, .cst, .cct, .cxtmeshDirector movies and casts, as Director saves them (.dir, .dxr, .cst, .cxt) or as Shockwave publishes them with Afterburner compression (.dcr, .cct): every Shockwave 3D cast member decoded with its models placed, meshes at full resolution, materials and textures, one layer group per member. A movie with no 3D members shows its bitmaps. Scripts, Xtras and the score are never run.
Silhouette 3D model.s3dmeshSilhouette 3D models (.s3d), the designs Silhouette 3D builds from cut files for the Alta 3D printer: every shape (base plate, rim, raised artwork) as its triangle mesh in millimetres, stacked as the design places it, one layer per shape.
Stereolithography.stlmeshTriangle-soup mesh for 3D printing. Binary or ASCII.
U3D (Universal 3D).u3dmeshU3D models (Universal 3D, ECMA-363) and the 3D PDFs that carry them: every mesh placed through its node tree with its transforms, in the shader and material colours the file stores, progressive meshes resolved to full detail, and the up axis taken from the PDF’s saved views. A 3D PDF whose pages are the model opens as that model; a document that only holds a small 3D view stays a document.
Unity Package.unitypackagemeshUnity asset packages (.unitypackage), unpacked in the browser: the package’s scene assembled from its GameObjects, prefabs and models (FBX, OBJ, COLLADA, 3DS, Blender, glTF) with their .mat materials, or its prefabs and models side by side when it has no scene. The file list offers every scene, prefab, model and mesh in the package.
Unity Scene / Prefab.unity, .prefab, .mat, .assetmeshUnity scenes (.unity), prefabs (.prefab), materials (.mat) and mesh or terrain assets (.asset) saved as text (Force Text): GameObjects with their transforms, nested prefabs and overrides, models and textures from the project’s Assets folder zipped beside them, built-in primitives and text meshes, in metres. Files a scene uses but did not arrive with are named.
Unreal Engine asset.uasset, .umap, .uexp, .ubulk, .utoc, .ucas, .upk, .uproject, .upluginmeshUnreal Engine editor assets: static meshes (.uasset) saved by Unreal Engine 4.0 to 4.27 as the source geometry of their most detailed level, upright and in metres, one layer a material slot, and levels (.umap) with their static mesh actors placed from the .uasset files dropped or zipped with them. UE5 meshes (Oodle-compressed), cooked game data (.uexp, .ubulk, .pak, .utoc, .ucas), UE3 packages and project files are recognised and named.
USD / USDZ.usdz, .usd, .usda, .usdc, .realitymeshUniversal Scene Description, the format an iPhone shares: .usdz packages from Object Capture, RoomPlan, Reality Composer and AR Quick Look, plus the loose .usdc crate and .usda text layers that Omniverse, Houdini, Maya and Blender write. The composed stage arrives with its prim hierarchy, UsdPreviewSurface materials, the textures bundled inside the package, and the real-world scale the stage declares in metersPerUnit.
VRML.wrl, .vrml, .wrzmeshVRML 1.0 and VRML 2.0 (VRML97): the legacy text-based web 3D format, still written by older CAD exporters.
Wavefront OBJ.objmeshWavefront OBJ text format with companion .mtl material file.
X3D.x3d, .x3dvmeshX3D, the successor to VRML still used in scientific visualisation, in both its XML (.x3d) and classic (.x3dv) encodings, with image textures.
GROMACS structure.gromoleculeGROMACS structure files (.gro), converted from nanometres to ångströms: proteins as a cartoon of their chains, other molecules as ball and stick, water, hydrogens and space filling on their own layers, and a rectangular simulation box as the unit cell. Bonds are worked out from covalent radii; the first frame is drawn.
MDL molfile.sdf, .sd, .molmoleculeMDL molfiles and SD files (.mol, .sdf, .sd; V2000 and V3000): each molecule as ball and stick with double, triple and aromatic bonds drawn as parallel cylinders, atoms coloured by element, a space-filling layer, and one layer per molecule of a multi-record file, in ångströms.
mmCIF / CIF structure.cif, .mmcif, .mcifmoleculePDBx/mmCIF structures from the Protein Data Bank, drawn as a cartoon of their chains with ligands as ball and stick, and small-molecule crystallography CIF from the CCDC, the COD and journals, drawn as ball and stick inside the unit cell, in ångströms with every atom coloured by element. The first data block is read; a crystal shows the atoms of its asymmetric unit.
Protein Data Bank structure.pdb, .ent, .pdbqt, .pqrmoleculeProtein Data Bank structures (.pdb, .ent) with AutoDock PDBQT and APBS PQR: proteins as a cartoon of their chains (helices and strands from the file or worked out from the Cα trace, one chain coloured blue to red, several chains each in its own colour), DNA and RNA as a backbone tube with base sticks, ligands as ball and stick, every atom coloured by element, in ångströms. Polymer atoms, hydrogens, water, space filling and the unit cell are layers to switch on. The first model of an NMR ensemble is drawn.
Tripos MOL2.mol2, .ml2moleculeTripos MOL2 files: each molecule as ball and stick, elements from the SYBYL atom types and bond orders from the bond types, atoms coloured by element, a space-filling layer, and one layer per molecule of a multi-molecule file, in ångströms.
XYZ molecule.xyzmoleculeChemistry XYZ files (an atom count, a comment line, then an element and x, y, z per atom): the molecule as ball and stick with bonds worked out from covalent radii, atoms coloured by element, and a space-filling layer, in ångströms. The first frame of a multi-frame file is drawn; an .xyz point cloud opens as a point cloud.
EULUMDAT Photometric.ldtphotometricEULUMDAT photometric files, the European standard: the intensity table scaled to absolute candela, expanded from its symmetry and drawn as a 3D photometric web coloured by intensity, with the polar curves, the luminaire body, and lumens, peak candela, beam angle, colour temperature and manufacturer on the status line.
GLDF Luminaire.gldfphotometricGLDF luminaire packages (Global Lighting Data Format): the L3D model of the luminaire with each emitter’s photometric web drawn from its light-emitting object, the product name, number and maker, the variants, and the first emitter’s lumens, peak candela, beam angle, power and colour temperature on the status line. Packages without a model show their photometry. One click opens the photometry in the IES Viewer.
IES Photometric.iesphotometricIESNA LM-63 photometric files, every revision: the luminaire’s candela distribution drawn as a 3D photometric web coloured by intensity, with the C0-C180 and C90-C270 polar curves, the luminaire outline, and lumens, peak candela, beam angle, lamp and manufacturer on the status line. One click opens it in the IES Viewer for the polar plot and isofootcandle plan.
IES TM-33 Photometric.tm33photometricIES TM-33 and UNI 11733 photometric XML (TM-33-18, TM-33-23 and the ATLA S001 document they grew from), usually saved as .xml: the intensity table drawn as the same 3D photometric web as an .ies file, with the polar curves and luminaire outline, several emitters summed into one distribution, and radiant or photon intensity (horticultural and UV data) labelled in its own units. One click opens it in the IES Viewer.
ASTM E57 Point Cloud.e57pointcloudASTM E57 laser scans (E2807), the vendor-neutral exchange format: every scan in the file, cartesian or spherical, placed by its registration pose on its own layer, with RGB or an intensity ramp and missed returns dropped. The file is read by byte range in a worker and sampled evenly to the device’s point budget, so multi-gigabyte projects open. Panoramas and photos in the file are not drawn.
Esri ASCII Grid (DEM).asc, .grdpointcloudEsri ASCII Grid elevation rasters (.asc, and the ASCII .grd variant; ArcInfo ASCII Grid): LiDAR DSM and DTM tiles and other DEMs, drawn as a terrain mesh in metres at true scale, coloured by height, with no-data cells left as holes. A ZIP of tiles opens as one mosaic placed by each tile’s corner, read one tile at a time and thinned to fit the device, and a .prj beside the grid sets its units.
Gaussian splat.splat, .ksplat, .spz, .sogpointcloudGaussian splat captures (3DGS .ply and SuperSplat compressed .ply, .splat, .ksplat, .spz and .sog), the output of phone and drone photogrammetry: every splat drawn as a soft ellipse from its own 3D shape and colour, blended in depth order as the view turns, up to 4 million splats on a desktop. Ordinary .ply scans and meshes open as before.
LAS / LAZ Point Cloud.las, .lazpointcloudLAS/LAZ LiDAR and photogrammetry point clouds, including LASzip-compressed .laz. Rendered with per-point RGB, an ASPRS classification palette, or an intensity ramp, and split into per-class layers when the scan is classified.
PCD Point Cloud (PCL).pcdpointcloudPoint Cloud Library clouds (.pcd) from PCL, ROS, Open3D and LiDAR SLAM tools: ascii, binary and LZF binary_compressed data with any field layout, x y z with the packed rgb colour or an intensity ramp, organized clouds without their NaN holes, placed by the VIEWPOINT pose. The file is read in pieces in a worker and sampled evenly to the device’s point budget; a file cut short shows the points it holds.
Text Point Cloud (PTS / PTX / XYZ).pts, .ptx, .xyzpointcloudText point clouds: Leica .pts and .ptx scan exports and .xyz point lists (X Y Z with optional intensity, RGB and normals, space- or comma-separated). The file is read as a stream and sampled evenly to the device’s point budget, so multi-gigabyte scans open without loading the whole file; colors come from RGB or an intensity ramp, PTX scans are placed by their registration transforms, and multi-scan files get a layer per scan.
Windows Program.exe, .dll, .sys, .ocx, .cpl, .scr, .efi, .munprogramA Windows program (.exe, .dll, .sys) holds machine code, not geometry. Dropped on the viewer it opens as an info sheet: the application icons, the version block Explorer shows in Properties, who signed it and when, the architecture and subsystem, the libraries it links against and delay-loads, per-section entropy with a packer verdict, the C++ classes recovered from RTTI, the COM interfaces it uses, and whether anything is appended to it. A view menu opens the rest: every embedded string, a disassembly of any code section (x86, x86-64, ARM and ARM64) with calls resolved to the imported functions they reach, string literals shown at their reference sites, function boundaries from the exception directory, and public symbols fetched from the Microsoft symbol server when the build published them. Every embedded resource renders too: icons, cursors and bitmaps as pictures, dialog templates drawn to scale, string, menu, accelerator and message tables, and manifests. A self-extracting archive is opened, and the model inside it is loaded. Programs are never shared, embedded, or re-downloaded from here.

Supported Export Formats

Open a file in any supported format, then click Export in the toolbar to save as:

STL

.stl

Binary stereolithography mesh for 3D printing, CNC, and FEA.

OBJ + MTL

.zip

Wavefront OBJ + companion MTL material file, bundled as a zip.

glTF Binary

.glb

Self-contained GLB with PBR materials, textures, and layer structure preserved as glTF nodes.

PDF Snapshot

.pdf

A4 landscape PDF of the current view with header caption (filename, format, triangle count) and footer.

Self-contained HTML

.html

One web page that opens offline in any browser: a model with orbit, pan and zoom, or a drawing with pan, zoom and layer toggles. Nothing to install, nothing fetched.

Because all formats normalize into the same internal scene model, every supported import format can be exported as any of the four outputs — e.g. Rhino .3dm to STL, FBX to GLB, SKP to PDF, etc.

Features

Auto Format Detection

Drop any file — magic-byte sniffing identifies the format before parsing, so you don’t need to set anything.

Shared SceneGraph

Every adapter normalizes into the same scene model: meshes, materials, layers, transforms. Behavior is consistent regardless of source format.

Layer Visibility

Toggle layers on/off from the side panel. Works for SKP, DWG, STEP assemblies, Rhino layers, and any format with grouping.

View Presets

3D orbit plus six orthographic views (top, bottom, front, back, left, right). Solid, wireframe, or x-ray render modes.

Share Links

Generate a shareable link that preserves view state, layer visibility, and render mode. Recipients see the model exactly as you have it open.

Embed Anywhere

One-line iframe snippet drops the viewer into any HTML page. Optional toolbar-hidden mode for chromeless embeds.

Universal Export

Save any supported format as STL, OBJ, GLB, or PDF — even formats this site can’t natively author (like 3DM or FBX → STL).

No Server Round-Trip

Files are parsed and rendered in WebAssembly or pure JavaScript on your machine. Nothing uploads by default.

Issue Reporting

The Report button bundles your file, view state, and a screenshot into a one-click bug or feature submission.

How It Works

  1. 1

    Drop or open a file

Drag a 3D file onto the viewer, or click "Open a 3D File" to pick from your machine. URLs work too via the ?url= query parameter.

  2. 2

    Auto-detect + parse

The viewer reads the first 16 KB of the file to identify the format via magic bytes, then lazy-loads the matching adapter (no wasted bandwidth on parsers you don’t need).

  3. 3

    Render + explore

The parsed scene normalizes into a shared SceneGraph (meshes, materials, layers). Three.js renders it; the toolbar offers view presets, render modes, and layer toggles.

  4. 4

    Share, embed, or export

Generate a share link (file + view state preserved), copy an iframe snippet, or save as STL / OBJ / GLB / PDF — all without leaving the page.

Dedicated Viewer & Converter Pages

Every common format has its own page with format-specific documentation, FAQ, and SEO-friendly URL. They share this same viewer under the hood.

Your Files Stay on Your Computer

Files are parsed by JavaScript and WebAssembly running in your browser. Nothing is uploaded by default. The Share button is the only feature that touches a server — and only when the file isn’t already a public URL. Shared files are stored for 90 days and then deleted automatically.

STEP and IGES CAD files are tessellated with Open CASCADE Technology via occt-import-js (LGPL-2.1). Word documents are typeset with Carlito, Caladea, Liberation and Gelasio (SIL OFL 1.1). See the open-source licenses.

Use of this viewer is governed by our Terms of Use.

Free to Use, No Signup

There are no accounts and no watermarks on the 3D Viewer. If it saved you time, the one thing we ask is a mention: a post, a link from your blog or course page, or a reply to someone asking how to open a file.

Share it

Made something reusable? Add it to the Free Parts Library. Writing about it? Copy a link, badge or citation. Send us your post and we’ll feature it with a link to your site.

Hear about new formats

Occasional emails when the viewer learns a new format or gets a new tool.

Frequently Asked Questions

▶Which 3D file formats are supported?

The viewer renders 141 formats today and detects 0 more. See the full catalog below for extensions, descriptions, and links to dedicated viewer pages.

▶Can I convert between formats?

Yes. Open any supported format and click Export in the toolbar to save as STL (3D printing), OBJ (Wavefront), GLB (glTF binary), or PDF (snapshot of the current view).

▶Is anything uploaded to a server?

No, not by default. Files are parsed and rendered entirely in your browser. The only time a file is uploaded is when you explicitly click Share and the file is local (not already served from a URL) — in that case it’s stored for 90 days to back the share link.

▶How big a file can I open?

The viewer can handle multi-hundred-megabyte files on a modern desktop browser. Mobile devices may struggle with very large files. The Share upload limit is 100 MB — larger files can still be viewed locally, just not uploaded for sharing.

▶Can I embed the viewer in my own site?

Yes. Click Embed in the toolbar to generate a one-line iframe snippet for any model URL. You can choose whether the embed shows the surrounding toolbar, pick a compressed or readable link, and set the starting camera, view, layers, and render mode. See the embedding guide for the full list of URL parameters.

▶How do I open a file directly via URL?

Pass ?url=with the public URL of your file, e.g. /tools/3d-viewer?url=https://example.com/model.glb. The viewer auto-detects the format from the file’s magic bytes. The same parameter also takes a data: URI, which carries a small file inline with no server involved. For files with no public address at all — bytes your page already holds, anything behind a login, or a file on the visitor’s own machine — embed with ?pm=1 and post the model in directly; see the embedding guide.

▶What if my format isn’t supported yet?

Click Report in the toolbar with a sample file and a short note — we add formats based on real user requests. IES is detected today but not yet rendered; that’s next on the list.
