AI 3D Models of Lighting Fixtures Luminaires for design and BIM, free

Describe a pendant, a recessed troffer, a wall sconce or a linear cove and the AI builds it at real size. Use it for lighting layouts, renderings and BIM coordination, exporting IFC or DWG for the model and GLB for visualisation.

Free. Use your own Anthropic or OpenAI key.

Also from Innerscene: Circadian Lab, a free lighting calculator for room illuminance, melanopic EML, and glare.

Watch how it works

How it works

  1. 1. Describe it or add a photoType what you want in plain words, with sizes if you know them, or add a photo as a reference. Describe an object or a person.
  2. 2. The AI builds and checks itThe AI writes an OpenSCAD program for an object, or sets up the character generator for a person. It looks at six rendered views of the result and fixes what is wrong, up to five builds per message.
  3. 3. Refine and exportThe model opens in the viewer at real size. Ask for changes in the chat, move the sliders, then download it or pick a format from the Export menu.

Why make it with AI here

  • Lighting designers can place a custom or specified luminaire in a model before the manufacturer's files arrive.
  • Housing sizes, trims and mounting heights follow the dimensions you type.
  • IFC and DWG exports drop into Revit, Archicad and AutoCAD for coordination.

Prompts to try

Click one to open it in the AI panel, then change the sizes to suit.

Exporting lighting fixtures

  1. Export IFC4 to link the fixture into Revit or Archicad.
  2. Export DWG for reflected ceiling plans and AutoCAD models.
  3. Export GLB for renders, VR walkthroughs and client presentations.

The model is geometry only: it carries no photometric data. Pair it with the manufacturer's IES file for calculations, such as in the free CircadianLab lighting calculator.

Best export formats: IFC, DWG, GLB

Good to know

It models the housing only: there is no IES photometry, beam angle or lumen output. Very fine detail like heat sink fins may be simplified.

Cost and privacy

You use your own Anthropic or OpenAI API key. It is stored only in your browser and sent only to that provider, which bills you directly: a model typically costs $0.05 to $0.30 at Standard quality and up to about $1 at Detailed, and Innerscene charges nothing. Your key and prompts are not sent to Innerscene; we record anonymous usage statistics such as the steps used, the model chosen, token counts, a cost estimate and whether a model was made.

Questions

▶Can AI make 3D models of light fixtures?
Yes. Describe the luminaire with its sizes and finish, and the AI builds the housing, trim and mounting at real size.
▶Does the model include IES photometric data?
No. It is geometry only. Use the manufacturer's IES file for lighting calculations.
▶Can I make a Revit lighting fixture family from it?
Yes. Import a SAT or DWG into a lighting fixture family and add the light source in Revit, or link the IFC for coordination.
▶Can I model a cove or linear run?
Yes. Give the length, profile and fascia height, and change the length later with a slider.
