AI Model Generator for SolidWorks Free, in your browser

Describe a part, a jig or an enclosure and the AI builds it at real size. Export STEP or SAT and open it in SolidWorks, where it imports as a body of faces for layout and reference work.

Free. Use your own Anthropic or OpenAI key.

Also from Innerscene: Circadian Lab, a free lighting calculator for room illuminance, melanopic EML, and glare.

Watch how it works

How it works

  1. 1. Describe it or add a photoType what you want in plain words, with sizes if you know them, or add a photo as a reference. Describe an object or a person.
  2. 2. The AI builds and checks itThe AI writes an OpenSCAD program for an object, or sets up the character generator for a person. It looks at six rendered views of the result and fixes what is wrong, up to five builds per message.
  3. 3. Refine and exportThe model opens in the viewer at real size. Ask for changes in the chat, move the sliders, then download it or pick a format from the Export menu.

Why make it with AI here

  • Engineers can get a quick envelope model for clearance checks in an assembly.
  • Purchased-part stand-ins, like motors or enclosures, can be made from their catalogue dimensions.
  • The model can be refined by chat before it ever reaches your CAD tree.

Prompts to try

Click one to open it in the AI panel, then change the sizes to suit.

Getting the model into SolidWorks

  1. Choose STEP (or SAT) in the Export menu.
  2. In SolidWorks, use File > Open and set the file type to STEP or ACIS.
  3. Open it as a part, then insert it into your assembly.
  4. Use STL only for visual reference or printing, since SolidWorks imports it as graphics or a mesh body.

SolidWorks imports the STEP or SAT as a body made of many flat faces. It has no feature history, so dimensions are edited by remaking it in the AI panel.

Best export formats: STEP, SAT (ACIS), STL

Good to know

Import Diagnostics and FeatureWorks cannot recover features from a faceted body. It is a poor fit for parts needing tight tolerances or drawings with real geometry.

Cost and privacy

You use your own Anthropic or OpenAI API key. It is stored only in your browser and sent only to that provider, which bills you directly: a model typically costs $0.05 to $0.30 at Standard quality and up to about $1 at Detailed, and Innerscene charges nothing. Your key and prompts are not sent to Innerscene; we record anonymous usage statistics such as the steps used, the model chosen, token counts, a cost estimate and whether a model was made.

Questions

▶Is the STEP file editable in SolidWorks?
It imports as a body of faces with no feature tree. You can measure, mate and cut it, but not edit original features.
▶Should I use STEP or SAT for SolidWorks?
Both import as a faceted body. STEP is the more common choice; SAT is an alternative if STEP gives errors.
▶Can I make drawings from it?
You can place it in a drawing, but curved edges show as many segments. Redraw critical parts as native features.
▶Can I use it in an assembly?
Yes. Insert the part and mate to its flat faces, which come through cleanly.
