Export Revit RVT to IFC, PDF and 3D Without Revit (Free, Online)

Export a Revit RVT model to IFC, PDF floor plans and 3D formats for free, right in your browser, with no Revit licence and nothing to install.

When you need to pass a Revit model to someone who does not have Revit, open the RVT on these pages and download the format they need. This tutorial opens a four-storey apartment building from Revit and clicks Download IFC. The IFC has a storey for each Revit level, and walls, floors, doors, windows, stairs and roofs come across as IFC walls, slabs, doors and so on, each with its Revit category and element ID, so a consultant can open it in Archicad, Navisworks, Solibri or Tekla, or open or link it in Revit. We check it in the free IFC viewer: four storeys with their elevations, and a wall that reads IfcWall on Level 1 with its Revit element ID. Then the RVT to PDF page prints the floor plans: the model lines that run past the building are unticked, View, then Floor plans, cuts each level 1.2 m above the floor, and Download PDF opens the page setup, where All levels, A3 and 1:100 give one A3 sheet per level, in black and white with the cut walls drawn heavier. The PDF opens in the free PDF viewer and stays sharp when zoomed in. Last, the Export menu's 3D formats: STL for a 3D printed massing model, GLB for the web, AR and Blender, FBX for 3ds Max, Unreal Engine and Twinmotion, STEP for SolidWorks, Fusion and Inventor, and DWG and DXF floor plans. Revit 2010 and later opens, and so do Revit families (.rfa). The model is read in your browser and never uploaded.

Intro

Here is how to export a Revit model to IFC, PDF and 3D formats, for free, in your web browser, without Revit.

Open the RVT converter

Go to innerscene.com/tools/rvt-to-ifc. There is no account and no Revit licence needed, and the model is read right here in your browser.

Open a Revit file

Click Open an RVT File, or drop the file on the page. This is a four-storey apartment building, a public domain Revit model from NIST.

IFC for consultants and BIM tools

To send the model to a consultant, click Download IFC. The IFC has a storey for each Revit level. Walls, floors, doors, windows, stairs and roofs arrive as IFC walls, slabs, doors and so on, each with its Revit category and element ID. It opens in Archicad, Navisworks, Solibri and Tekla, and Revit can open or link it too.

Check the IFC

To check what arrives, open it in our free IFC viewer, at innerscene.com/tools/ifc-viewer. Tools, then Storeys, lists the four levels with their elevations. Click a wall: it is an IfcWall on Level 1, with its Revit category and element ID.

PDF floor plans to scale

For drawings to print, the RVT to PDF page is at innerscene.com/tools/rvt-to-pdf. Here is the same model. Its model lines run far past the building, so untick Model lines in Tools, Layers, to keep the sheet on the building. View, then Floor plans, cuts each level 1.2 metres above the floor, like a Revit plan view.

Page setup: every level on A3 at 1:100

Click Download PDF, and the page setup opens. Choose All levels, one page each, A3 paper, and a scale of 1:100. Black and white prints every line black, like a plot. Click Save PDF.

The PDF sheets

Here is the PDF in our free PDF viewer: one A3 sheet per level, at 1:100, with the walls the cut crosses drawn heavier. Zoom in, and the kitchens, bathrooms and door swings stay sharp, because the PDF is made of lines.

GLB, FBX, STEP and STL

Back in the viewer, Export has the 3D formats: STL for a 3D printed massing model, GLB for the web, AR and Blender, and FBX for 3ds Max, Unreal Engine and Twinmotion. STEP goes to SolidWorks, Fusion and Inventor, and the DWG and DXF floor plans are here too. Each format also has its own page, like RVT to GLB, with one Download button.

Apps for Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android

There are free apps too. On Windows, a small helper lets you double-click a Revit file in File Explorer to open it in this viewer. There is a Mac version, an app for iPhone and iPad on the App Store, and one for Android phones and tablets on Google Play.

Summary

Those are the free Revit converters at innerscene.com. Links to every format are in the description.
