Convert DWG to PDF Free Online, Without AutoCAD

Convert DWG to PDF for free, right in your browser, with no AutoCAD and nothing to install.

When a consultant or client sends you a DWG and you need a PDF to print, mark up or pass on, open the DWG on this page and save a vector PDF. This tutorial opens a studio apartment plan with walls, doors, windows, furniture, lights and dimensions on their own layers, checks it with zoom and pan, and switches the furniture layer off for an electrician's copy. In the page setup it picks A3 paper at 1:50, so the plan prints at true scale (the 8 metre wall measures 160 mm on the sheet), in black and white with every line black and the lineweights kept. It shows the warning you get when a scale is too big for the sheet, with a bigger paper or several pages on offer, and the Current view option that prints only what is on screen. We open the PDF in our free PDF viewer, zoom in to show that walls, hatching and text stay sharp, and point out the buttons that add text, sign, print and save. Last, a fixture drawing set with paper-space layouts goes out as one PDF with every sheet on its own page. Paper sizes run from A4 to A0, Letter, Tabloid, ANSI C and D, Arch C and D, with metric and imperial scales such as 1:100 or 1/4" = 1'-0". Your DWG is read in your browser and never uploaded.

Intro

Here is how to convert a DWG drawing to PDF for free, in your web browser, without AutoCAD.

Open the DWG to PDF converter

Go to innerscene.com/tools/dwg-to-pdf. There is no account and no AutoCAD licence needed, and the drawing is read right here in your browser.

Open a DWG file

Click Open a DWG File, or drop the file on the page. This is a studio apartment plan, with walls, doors, windows, furniture, lights and dimensions, each on its own layer.

Check the drawing

Scroll to zoom in and drag to move around, to check the details before you print. The button in the corner fits the whole drawing again.

Choose the layers to print

Say the plan is going to an electrician. Open Tools, then Layers. Untick Furniture, and the furniture is hidden. The PDF shows only the layers that are switched on.

Set up the page

Now open Export and choose PDF vector. The page setup opens. Pick the paper, A3, and the scale, 1:50. The plan is drawn in millimetres, so it prints at true scale, and the note shows its size on the sheet. Black and white prints every line black and keeps the lineweights, like a plot. At a scale that is too big for the sheet, it says so, and offers a bigger paper or several pages. Current view prints just what is on screen. Click Save PDF.

The PDF at true scale

Open the PDF in any PDF reader. Here it is in our free PDF viewer, at innerscene.com/tools/pdf-viewer. It is an A3 sheet in black and white, at 1:50, without the furniture. The 8 metre wall measures 160 millimetres on the paper, so a scale ruler reads it right. Zoom in, and the walls, hatching and text stay sharp, because the PDF is made of lines, the same as the DWG.

Mark up and print

From here you can add text, sign the sheet, and print it or save it.

Every layout in one PDF

A DWG with paper-space layouts, like this fixture drawing set, lists every sheet in the page setup. Choose All sheets, one page each, and click Save PDF. The PDF holds the model and each layout, one sheet per page.

Apps for Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android

There are free apps too. On Windows, a small helper lets you double-click a DWG file in File Explorer to open it in this viewer. There is a Mac version, an app for iPhone and iPad on the App Store, and one for Android phones and tablets on Google Play.

Summary

That is the free DWG to PDF converter at innerscene.com. Links are in the description.
