How to Open and View DXF Files Online for Free (DXF Viewer + DXF to DWG)
Open and view DXF files for free, right in your browser, with no AutoCAD.
This tutorial opens a real DXF floor plan and walks through everything the free DXF viewer does: zoom and pan, layers, measuring with snapping, sharing a link, embedding the viewer on your own site, and converting DXF to DWG, PDF, SVG, HTML, PNG and JPG. A floor plan can also go straight into Circadian Lab, our free lighting design tool, which reads the room from the walls. DXF files from AutoCAD R12 through 2018, text or binary, open, and DWG files too. It works on phones and tablets, and there are free apps for Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android. No software to install and no account needed.

Intro
Here is how to open and view a D X F file for free, in your web browser, with no AutoCAD and nothing to install.
Open the DXF viewer
Go to innerscene.com/tools/dxf-viewer. There is no account to create. It runs in Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox, and your file stays on your computer.
Open a DXF file
Click Open a DXF File, or drop the file on the page. This is a floor plan of a studio apartment. D X F files from AutoCAD R12 through 2018 open, text or binary, and D W G files too.
Zoom and pan
Scroll to zoom in toward the cursor, and drag to move around. Lines and text stay sharp at any zoom. The bottom button in the corner fits the whole drawing again.
Layers
Tools, then Layers, lists every layer in the drawing, with how many objects are on each. Untick a layer to hide it: here the furniture, then the lighting. All and None switch every layer at once.
Measure
To measure, open Tools and choose Add measurement, then click two points. Points snap to line ends and corners. This outside wall measures eight metres, the 8000 millimetre dimension on the plan.
Share a link
Share uploads the drawing and gives you a link that opens it just as you left it. Post it to LinkedIn, X, WhatsApp or email, with a preview image. You can also embed this viewer, with your drawing, on your own website, using the code from Share.
Convert DXF to DWG, PDF and images
Export converts the drawing: D W G for AutoCAD, or D X F again for other CAD programs and C N C machines. S V G, or a vector PDF that prints sharp at any size, a self-contained H T M L page with its layers, or a P N G or J P G image. Here it saves as a D W G, ready for AutoCAD.

A floor plan can go straight into Circadian Lab, our free lighting design tool. Tools, then Open in Circadian Lab, reads the walls from the drawing. The room opens ready for lighting, at its real size, with its inside walls.
