This tutorial opens a two-storey house saved in SketchUp 3 and walks through everything the free SKP to DWG converter does: orbit and zoom, the SketchUp tags (external walls, doors, windows, floors, roof) that become layers in the DWG, and exporting the whole model as a 3D DWG at real size. Then floor plans cut 1.2 m above each level, with walls, doors, windows and stairs, a measurement across the house, DWG floor plans (one drawing per level) and a DWG sheet with the top view, two elevations and a 3D view in a title block. Both drawings are then checked in the free DWG viewer. Every SketchUp version opens, from SketchUp 3 to the latest. The model is read in your browser and the DWG is written there too, so the file stays on your device.

Intro
Here is how to convert a SketchUp SKP file to an AutoCAD DWG, for free, in your web browser, without SketchUp.
Open the converter
Go to innerscene.com/tools/skp-to-dwg. There is no account and no SketchUp licence needed, and the model is read right here in your browser.
Open a SketchUp file
Click Open an SKP File, or drop the file on the page. Every SketchUp version opens; this house was saved in SketchUp 3. It has two storeys: a brick ground floor, a rendered first floor, and a conservatory.
Look around the model
Drag to orbit, scroll to zoom, and right-drag to pan.
SketchUp tags become DWG layers
Tools, then Tags, lists the SketchUp tags: external walls, doors, windows, floors and the roof. Each one becomes a layer in the DWG.
The whole model as a 3D DWG
To convert the whole model, click Download DWG. The DWG is written right in your browser: the 3D model at real size, with its colours, on those layers. It opens in AutoCAD, BricsCAD, DraftSight and other CAD programs.
Floor plans
For drawings, View, then Floor plans, draws each level the way a plan view does: cut 1.2 m above the floor, with the walls, doors, windows and stairs. To check a size, open Tools, choose Add measurement, and click two points. The house reads 10 m across, outside face to outside face. Level 2 is the first floor, and Back to 3D returns to the model.
Floor plans and a drawing sheet as DWG
Export, DWG floor plans, saves those plans as a 2D drawing, one per level, ready to hand to a consultant. DWG three-view drawing sheet adds a sheet with the top view, two elevations and a 3D view. The same menu has DXF versions of each, PDF and SVG for printing, IFC for Revit, and OBJ or FBX for rendering.
Check them in the DWG viewer
To check them, open the DWG in our free DWG viewer, at innerscene.com/tools/dwg-viewer. There are the floor plans, at true size: zoom in and every wall, door and stair is there. And the drawing sheet, with the top view, the front and side elevations and the 3D view, in a title block.
