GLB design review

Open a GLB scene in VR

A GLB is a convenient handover for a product, a room or an architectural presentation. Open the packaged scene in a headset browser and inspect how its geometry and supplied surface appearance work together from different viewpoints.

Open the file on a compatible WebXR device, then press Enter VR.

Private local review, directly from the file

Open your file directly on the device running the headset browser. The browser parses it locally, so a confidential model stays on that device during local viewing. No conversion, no plugin, no upload, no account.

The optional Send to VR headset workflow on a computer uploads a local file after your confirmation to create a hosted share and pairing code. Choose direct local opening on the headset when your model needs to stay on that device. An already hosted model can also be opened from its URL.

Review the model that will be delivered on the web

GLB is useful when the review subject is the presentation asset itself: a product model for a catalogue, a furnished room or a building visualisation. A headset reveals how the silhouette changes as you look around the object and how layered surfaces read in depth.

Use a product review to inspect the spacing of handles, panels and surrounding geometry. For a room, compare occlusion and views between adjacent spaces. This is especially useful when the GLB is already the file being handed to a client or used in a web experience.

Check the packaged scene and its textures

GLB can package geometry and textures in a single binary file, which makes it convenient to move onto a headset. Open the actual delivery file in the ordinary viewer first and inspect its surfaces and overall arrangement. Confirm any resources the scene expects are present.

Texture resolution and mesh density affect the cost of rendering the scene. For a standalone headset, choose detail that contributes to the review: a product silhouette and major finishes, or the architectural surfaces visible from the intended room. Check the delivered asset on the target device.

How to open GLB in VR

  1. 1

Open the GLB viewer in your headset browser

Use a browser and device that support immersive WebXR. Make your file available through that device’s file picker, then open the viewer.

  2. 2

Choose your file and inspect the loaded model

Open the local file, check the geometry in the ordinary 3D view and confirm the source units and a familiar dimension. Choose the visible layers that explain your review.

  3. 3

    Press Enter VR

Use the VR control after the model loads and accept the headset session prompt. The model starts at an inspection size, with its largest dimension fitted to 1.5 metres. Use the controllers to position, rotate and scale it.

Metre-based glTF coordinates still need a sensible authored size

The glTF reader declares GLB scene units as metres. That gives the ordinary viewer a clear basis for dimensions, while the actual geometry still reflects the size authored into the file. Check a familiar product dimension or room width after receiving the asset.

The WebXR presentation begins by fitting the model into 1.5 metres. Use the adjustable stage to examine detail or step visually inside a room arrangement. The numerical size used for product fit belongs with the checked dimensions in the ordinary viewer.

Inspect the asset from its intended viewing distances

Start with an overall view, then bring the GLB closer with the distance control to inspect surfaces. Grip movement helps place a product at a useful angle, while enlargement and height adjustment let you explore a room model. Head movement makes overlapping geometry and silhouette changes easier to judge.

Position the model with your controllers

Hold a grip
Grab the model and move it with the controller.
Right stick left or right
Rotate the model in 30 degree steps.
Right stick up or down
Enlarge or reduce the model visually.
Left stick up or down
Move the model closer or farther away.
Left stick left or right
Raise or lower the model.
Move your head
Inspect from different viewpoints within your headset boundary.

The controls position the model around you. The ordinary browser view is restored when you leave the headset session.

GLB VR questions

â–¶Do I need to turn a GLB into a separate VR package?

The browser viewer reads the GLB directly. Open the asset, inspect the loaded scene and enter VR on an immersive WebXR device. The same model supplies both views.

â–¶Why does a small GLB product look large when VR starts?

The viewer initially fits the model to a 1.5 metre stage so that its shape is easy to inspect. Controller scaling changes that presentation size. Check the ordinary viewer dimensions to confirm the size authored into the GLB.

â–¶How can I keep a confidential model local during VR review?

Open your file directly on the device running the headset browser. The browser parses it locally, so a confidential model stays on that device during local viewing. No conversion, no plugin, no upload, no account. The optional Send to VR headset workflow on a computer uploads a local file after your confirmation to create a hosted share and pairing code. Choose direct local opening on the headset when your model needs to stay on that device. An already hosted model can also be opened from its URL.

â–¶How does model scale work in this VR viewer?

The initial VR stage fits the largest model dimension to 1.5 metres. The right controller stick changes the presentation scale visually. Use checked dimensions in the ordinary viewer for exact sizing; the current VR controls provide adjustable presentation scale.

â–¶What does the headset browser need?

It needs immersive WebXR support and access to the model file. Open the viewer in a compatible headset browser, select the file and use the VR control after loading. The ordinary 3D view is also available on desktop and mobile browsers.
