FBX design review

Review an FBX scene in VR

FBX often arrives as a visualisation handover between design and modelling tools. Open the supplied file in your headset browser to review the loaded scene, its object arrangement and the visual relationships that are hard to read from one render.

Open the file on a compatible WebXR device, then press Enter VR.

Private local review, directly from the file

Open your file directly on the device running the headset browser. The browser parses it locally, so a confidential model stays on that device during local viewing. No conversion, no plugin, no upload, no account.

The optional Send to VR headset workflow on a computer uploads a local file after your confirmation to create a hosted share and pairing code. Choose direct local opening on the headset when your model needs to stay on that device. An already hosted model can also be opened from its URL.

Check a visualisation handover from inside the scene

An interior exported as FBX can include furniture, architectural surfaces and the object transforms that place them. A headset gives the recipient a way to inspect how those pieces occupy the scene: the view past a sofa, the overlap of suspended elements, or the depth of a product display.

For a product scene, use changing viewpoints to discuss silhouette and composition. Inspect the model that actually loaded in the viewer before organising a review. This makes the session about the received asset and its recovered geometry, with a clear reference for any follow-up to the sender.

Inspect geometry and supplied surface assets first

The reader loads FBX geometry and object transforms and handles supported embedded image content. Check the loaded surfaces in the ordinary viewer. An FBX handed over from another machine may refer to texture resources that need attention before the intended appearance is available.

Use the saved scene geometry as the basis for this review. A dense visualisation export can be expensive to render on a headset, especially when it includes many decorative objects. Ask for a focused scene when the review is about one room or display.

How to open FBX in VR

  1. 1

Open the FBX viewer in your headset browser

Use a browser and device that support immersive WebXR. Make your file available through that device’s file picker, then open the viewer.

  2. 2

Choose your file and inspect the loaded model

Open the local file, check the geometry in the ordinary 3D view and confirm the source units and a familiar dimension. Choose the visible layers that explain your review.

  3. 3

    Press Enter VR

Use the VR control after the model loads and accept the headset session prompt. The model starts at an inspection size, with its largest dimension fitted to 1.5 metres. Use the controllers to position, rotate and scale it.

Check the FBX export scale against a known feature

FBX passes through tools with different scale and transform conventions. Confirm the export settings with the sender and check a known dimension in the ordinary viewer. Choose the source-unit interpretation that makes the geometry match that reference before reporting dimensions.

VR presents the loaded scene at an initial size of 1.5 metres and lets you scale it visually. This gives the scene a convenient inspection size, independent of the export convention. Keep a checked dimension available when discussing product fit or furniture spacing.

Move through the composition by repositioning the scene

Start with the complete FBX arrangement to identify the relevant object group. Enlarge it and grip the scene into position for a view through the composition. Adjust height for suspended details or a lower viewpoint, and use physical head movement to see how foreground objects conceal those behind them.

Position the model with your controllers

Hold a grip
Grab the model and move it with the controller.
Right stick left or right
Rotate the model in 30 degree steps.
Right stick up or down
Enlarge or reduce the model visually.
Left stick up or down
Move the model closer or farther away.
Left stick left or right
Raise or lower the model.
Move your head
Inspect from different viewpoints within your headset boundary.

The controls position the model around you. The ordinary browser view is restored when you leave the headset session.

FBX VR questions

â–¶Can I review a received FBX without its authoring application?

Yes. The browser reads supported FBX content directly and uses that loaded scene for VR. Check the rendered geometry and surfaces first so the session reflects the asset available to the recipient.

â–¶What should accompany an FBX handover for a useful VR review?

Include the relevant geometry and required surface assets, plus a known dimension and the intended export unit. That gives the reviewer a practical way to check both the loaded appearance and the size interpretation before entering the headset.

â–¶How can I keep a confidential model local during VR review?

Open your file directly on the device running the headset browser. The browser parses it locally, so a confidential model stays on that device during local viewing. No conversion, no plugin, no upload, no account. The optional Send to VR headset workflow on a computer uploads a local file after your confirmation to create a hosted share and pairing code. Choose direct local opening on the headset when your model needs to stay on that device. An already hosted model can also be opened from its URL.

â–¶How does model scale work in this VR viewer?

The initial VR stage fits the largest model dimension to 1.5 metres. The right controller stick changes the presentation scale visually. Use checked dimensions in the ordinary viewer for exact sizing; the current VR controls provide adjustable presentation scale.

â–¶What does the headset browser need?

It needs immersive WebXR support and access to the model file. Open the viewer in a compatible headset browser, select the file and use the VR control after loading. The ordinary 3D view is also available on desktop and mobile browsers.
