Revit RVT design review
Open a Revit RVT model in VR
A project team can receive a native Revit file and review its decoded building geometry in a headset. Open the RVT directly in the browser, inspect the result, and enter VR for a spatial conversation about the design.
Open the file on a compatible WebXR device, then press Enter VR.
Private local review, directly from the file
Open your file directly on the device running the headset browser. The browser parses it locally, so a confidential model stays on that device during local viewing. No conversion, no plugin, no upload, no account.
The optional Send to VR headset workflow on a computer uploads a local file after your confirmation to create a hosted share and pairing code. Choose direct local opening on the headset when your model needs to stay on that device. An already hosted model can also be opened from its URL.
Review the Revit project a colleague actually sent
A client or contractor often needs to understand a Revit design before the next coordination call. Native RVT opening makes that received project the starting point. A headset helps communicate a double-height space, the route past a column, or the position of a ceiling relative to the room below.
The reader reconstructs supported elements from the Revit database and groups the result into category layers. Inspect the rendered result before the meeting so that participants know which elements are available. Geometry recovery varies by element and file, and some elements use reconstructed or bounding geometry.
Select a review question and check the decoded categories
Begin with a specific question, such as the visual impact of framing above a reception area. Check the ordinary 3D view and its category layers, then choose the combination that explains that question. The supported reader handles Revit 2012 and later, with results depending on the saved project.
This workflow reads the RVT in the browser and enters VR from the same loaded model. That is useful when the recipient can access the project file but has no authoring installation. Confidential local review works on the device that opens the file, including a headset with a suitable browser.
How to open Revit RVT in VR
- 1
Open the Revit RVT viewer in your headset browser
Use a browser and device that support immersive WebXR. Make your file available through that device’s file picker, then open the viewer.
- 2
Choose your file and inspect the loaded model
Open the local file, check the geometry in the ordinary 3D view and confirm the source units and a familiar dimension. Choose the visible layers that explain your review.
- 3
Press Enter VR
Use the VR control after the model loads and accept the headset session prompt. The model starts at an inspection size, with its largest dimension fitted to 1.5 metres. Use the controllers to position, rotate and scale it.
Revit feet and the headset stage serve different purposes
The Revit adapter keeps its scene coordinates in feet. The ordinary viewer uses those source units when displaying dimensions, including metric readouts. Check a known floor-to-floor height or door opening there before quoting a distance in a review.
On entering VR, the scene is fitted to a 1.5 metre stage. The controller changes its presentation size visually. Use that scale to inspect enclosure and relationships, and keep checked dimensions alongside the discussion whenever a decision depends on actual reach or clearance.
Move between project areas by positioning the model
Use the small initial view to identify the area you want, enlarge the model, and grip it into position. Height adjustment is particularly useful when moving between levels in a Revit building. You can look around within the headset boundary and move the model again to inspect another floor.
Position the model with your controllers
- Hold a grip
- Grab the model and move it with the controller.
- Right stick left or right
- Rotate the model in 30 degree steps.
- Right stick up or down
- Enlarge or reduce the model visually.
- Left stick up or down
- Move the model closer or farther away.
- Left stick left or right
- Raise or lower the model.
- Move your head
- Inspect from different viewpoints within your headset boundary.
The controls position the model around you. The ordinary browser view is restored when you leave the headset session.
Revit RVT VR questions
â–¶Does this Revit VR workflow require a Revit plugin?
The viewer reads the received RVT directly in the browser. Local opening and VR viewing are free and account-free, with the same decoded model used for both the ordinary view and the headset session.
â–¶How should I check a native RVT before a client VR review?
Open the file in the ordinary viewer first. Check the spaces and category layers that matter for the review and compare familiar dimensions. This lets you frame the discussion around the geometry that the reader recovered from that project.
â–¶How can I keep a confidential model local during VR review?
Open your file directly on the device running the headset browser. The browser parses it locally, so a confidential model stays on that device during local viewing. No conversion, no plugin, no upload, no account. The optional Send to VR headset workflow on a computer uploads a local file after your confirmation to create a hosted share and pairing code. Choose direct local opening on the headset when your model needs to stay on that device. An already hosted model can also be opened from its URL.
â–¶How does model scale work in this VR viewer?
The initial VR stage fits the largest model dimension to 1.5 metres. The right controller stick changes the presentation scale visually. Use checked dimensions in the ordinary viewer for exact sizing; the current VR controls provide adjustable presentation scale.
â–¶What does the headset browser need?
It needs immersive WebXR support and access to the model file. Open the viewer in a compatible headset browser, select the file and use the VR control after loading. The ordinary 3D view is also available on desktop and mobile browsers.
