Abstract

Summary

This cross-sectional study from the HEIJO-KYO cohort explores the association between glaucomatous optic disc changes and depressive symptoms in older adults, independent of light exposure patterns. The findings suggest that ophthalmic checkups integrated into standard health screenings could help identify visual impairment risk and related mood impacts in aging populations.
Abstract

Key Findings

  • Glaucomatous optic disc changes were associated with depressive symptoms independently of light exposure profiles in an older adult cohort
  • The study supports integrating ophthalmic checkups into routine health screenings as an effective preventive measure for visual impairment in older populations
