How to convert DWF to PDF

  1. 1

    Open your .dwf file

Drag it onto the viewer above, or click "Open a DWF File". Files up to 200 MB open directly; the parse runs in a worker so the page stays responsive.

  2. 2

Pick PDF in the Export menu

Click Export in the toolbar, then PDF (.pdf).

  3. 3

    Download

The .pdf is written in the browser and saved straight to your downloads folder. No queue, no email, no watermark.

What survives the conversion

A file conversion is a translation, and formats do not carry the same things. Here is exactly what moves from DWF into PDF, and what does not.

GeometryReducedThe vector PDF keeps every line, arc, hatch and label as native PDF graphics, so it stays sharp at any zoom and opens as editable paths in Illustrator. The snapshot PDF is a picture of the current view instead. Neither is CAD geometry once exported.
Colors and materialsKeptPDF carries full color, which is at least what DWF stores, so the colors come across.
Layers and structureDroppedThe export is flat: one image, one set of pixels. Layers you switched off in the Layers panel are simply not drawn, so the output matches what you see.
Layer visibilityKeptWhatever you have switched off in the Layers panel is switched off in the export too, so the output matches the view on screen.

What the PDF writer emits: Two buttons: a snapshot PDF of the current view with caption headers, and a true vector PDF. The vector one re-projects a 3-D model as editable line work with hidden lines removed, and writes a 2-D drawing straight through as native PDF vector objects with its text still selectable.

The source: Autodesk DWF / DWFx (.dwf, .dwfx)

Published 2-D vector sheets and 3-D HOOPS models, with a picker for multi-sheet sets.

The target: PDF (.pdf)

The format anyone can open. For submittals, RFIs, markups and email.

Opens in: Any PDF reader, Bluebeam, Acrobat, Illustrator (vector output).

Your file never leaves your computer

Both the DWF parser and the PDF writer are JavaScript and WebAssembly running in your own browser tab. There is no upload step, no server-side conversion queue, and no copy of your file anywhere but your machine. That matters for drawings under NDA, for client work, and for anything you would not email to a stranger.
