Convert DWF to DWG (Free)

Drop a .dwf file, click Export, download the .dwg. AutoCAD native. Hand it to anyone who asked for "the CAD file".

Also converts DXF, PDF, SVG, PNG, JPG from the same file.

Runs in your browser. No upload, no signup, nothing to install.

Also from Innerscene: Circadian Lab, a free lighting calculator for room illuminance, melanopic EML, and glare.

The DWF is read and converted on your own machine. Only the resulting geometry is sent, to write the binary DWG.

How to convert DWF to DWG

  1. 1

    Open your .dwf file

Drag it onto the viewer above, or click "Open a DWF File". Files up to 200 MB open directly; the parse runs in a worker so the page stays responsive.

  2. 2

Pick AutoCAD Drawing in the Export menu

Click Export in the toolbar, then DWG (.dwg).

  3. 3

    Download

The .dwg is written in the browser and saved straight to your downloads folder. No queue, no email, no watermark.

What survives the conversion

A file conversion is a translation, and formats do not carry the same things. Here is exactly what moves from DWF into DWG, and what does not.

GeometryKeptBoth are 2-D vector formats, so the line work transfers as line work: lines, polylines, arcs, circles and filled regions stay editable geometry rather than becoming a picture.
Colors and materialsKeptDWG carries one color per object, which is at least what DWF stores, so the colors come across.
Layers and structureKeptLayers survive as real layers in the DWG file, so you can still isolate and toggle them.
Units and scaleKeptDWG stores an explicit unit, so the drawing opens at true size without rescaling.
Text and labelsReducedLabels, dimension text and notes come across as editable DWG TEXT at their original height and rotation. R12 text is single line and anchored left, so a multi-line note becomes one line per row and a centered label sits left of where it was.
Fills and hatchingReducedA hatched or filled region exports as its outline plus SOLID fill triangles. The hatch pattern itself is not reconstructed as a live hatch object, so it will not re-scale with the drawing.

What the DWG writer emits: The same R12 geometry as the DXF export, converted to binary DWG by a native converter on our server. Layers, colors and units carry across. This one step is the only part of a conversion that leaves your machine, and it sends geometry only.

The source: Autodesk DWF / DWFx (.dwf, .dwfx)

Published 2-D vector sheets and 3-D HOOPS models, with a picker for multi-sheet sets.

The target: AutoCAD Drawing (.dwg)

AutoCAD native. Hand it to anyone who asked for "the CAD file".

Opens in: AutoCAD, BricsCAD, DraftSight, Revit, Civil 3D, ZWCAD.

What happens to your file

Your DWF file is parsed in your own browser tab and never uploaded. Writing a binary DWG is the one step that cannot be done in a browser, so the geometry we generated locally is posted to our own converter as a DXF, turned into a DWG, and sent straight back.

What travels is the exported geometry, not your original file: no source document, no file name, no metadata. Nothing is retained after the response. DWF → DXF

Frequently asked questions

Is this DWF to DWG converter free?

Yes. No signup, no watermark, no per-file limit and no paid tier. Innerscene.

Is my DWF file uploaded anywhere?

Your DWF file is not. It is read and converted in your own browser tab. Writing a binary DWG is the one step no browser can do, so the geometry produced locally is posted to our converter as a DXF and comes back as a DWG. Your original file, its name and its metadata never leave your machine.

Will my colors and materials survive the DWG export?

DWG carries one color per object, which is at least what DWF stores, so the colors come across.

Do layers and named parts carry into the DWG file?

Layers survive as real layers in the DWG file, so you can still isolate and toggle them.

Will the DWG open at the right size?

DWG stores an explicit unit, so the drawing opens at true size without rescaling.

How large a DWF file can I convert?

Up to 200 MB, and the ceiling adapts to how much memory your device reports. The conversion runs on your own hardware, so a desktop with plenty of RAM will handle more than a phone.

Can I convert DWG back to DWF?

Not here. We read DWF and write DWG, but not the reverse. the universal 3D viewer

Which browsers does it work in?

Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android. No plugin and no extension.
