What survives the conversion

A file conversion is a translation, and formats do not carry the same things. Here is exactly what moves from 3MF into DWG, and what does not.

Geometry	Kept	Both formats store triangle meshes, so the shape transfers directly.
Colors and materials	Kept	DWG carries one color per object, which is at least what 3MF stores, so the colors come across.
Layers and structure	Kept	Layers survive as real layers in the DWG file, so you can still isolate and toggle them.
Units and scale	Kept	DWG stores an explicit unit, so the model opens at true size without rescaling.

What the DWG writer emits: The same R12 geometry as the DXF export, converted to binary DWG by a native converter on our server. Layers, colors and units carry across. This one step is the only part of a conversion that leaves your machine, and it sends geometry only.

What happens to your file

Your 3MF file is parsed in your own browser tab and never uploaded. Writing a binary DWG is the one step that cannot be done in a browser, so the geometry we generated locally is posted to our own converter as a DXF, turned into a DWG, and sent straight back.

What travels is the exported geometry, not your original file: no source document, no file name, no metadata. Nothing is retained after the response. 3MF → DXF
