How to convert AFPHOTO to PDF

  1. 1

    Open your .afphoto file

Drag it onto the viewer above, or click "Open an AFPHOTO File". Files up to 200 MB open directly; the parse runs in a worker so the page stays responsive.

  2. 2

    Click Download PDF

Once the file is open, the Download PDF button sits at the bottom right of the viewer. The Export menu in the toolbar has every other format.

  3. 3

    Download

The .pdf is written in the browser and saved straight to your downloads folder. No queue, no email, no watermark.

What survives the conversion

A file conversion is a translation, and formats do not carry the same things. Here is exactly what moves from AFPHOTO into PDF, and what does not.

GeometryReducedThe vector PDF keeps the line work as editable paths with hidden lines removed. The snapshot PDF is a picture of the view. Neither is 3-D geometry once exported.
Colors and materialsKeptPDF carries full color, which is at least what AFPHOTO stores, so the colors come across.
ResolutionKeptThe export dialog opens at the picture’s own pixel size, so a 1x export is the same resolution as the original. You can go higher or lower before saving.
Camera metadataDroppedEXIF is not carried across: no camera model, no exposure settings, no GPS coordinates, no capture date. Only the pixels are written. That is a privacy win if you are publishing the photo and a loss if you were relying on the metadata.

What the PDF writer emits: Two buttons: a snapshot PDF of the current view with caption headers, and a true vector PDF. The vector one re-projects a 3-D model as editable line work with hidden lines removed, and writes a 2-D drawing straight through as native PDF vector objects with its text still selectable. A building model (Revit, IFC, Archicad) prints its floor plans, one page per level, on the paper and at the scale you pick.

The source: Affinity Photo document (.afphoto)

The preview picture Affinity Photo saves inside the document, at the size it was saved, with the app version the file states. The pixel layers, adjustments and masks are in Affinity’s own format and are not converted.

Your file never leaves your computer

Both the AFPHOTO parser and the PDF writer are JavaScript and WebAssembly running in your own browser tab. There is no upload step, no server-side conversion queue, and no copy of your file anywhere but your machine. That matters for drawings under NDA, for client work, and for anything you would not email to a stranger.
