How to convert PCD to LAS
- 1
Open your .pcd file
Drag it onto the viewer above, or click "Open a PCD File". Files up to 200 MB open directly; the parse runs in a worker so the page stays responsive.
- 2
Click Download LAS
Once the file is open, the Download LAS button sits at the bottom right of the viewer. The Export menu in the toolbar has every other format.
- 3
Download
The .las is written in the browser and saved straight to your downloads folder. No queue, no email, no watermark.
What survives the conversion
A file conversion is a translation, and formats do not carry the same things. Here is exactly what moves from PCD into LAS, and what does not.
| Geometry | Kept | Both formats store points, so the shape transfers directly. |
|---|---|---|
| Colors and materials | Kept | LAS carries per-vertex color, which is at least what PCD stores, so the colors come across. |
| Units and scale | Kept | LAS stores an explicit unit. PCD does not, so the size is taken from how the viewer read the file. Check the scale once on import. |
| Map coordinates | Reduced | LAS is written in local meters, centered on the data. OBJ, PLY, XYZ, DXF and DWG exports keep the map coordinates. |
What the LAS writer emits: LAS 1.4, point data record format 2 (XYZ plus RGB), centered on the cloud’s own bounds with a millimeter scale factor. The file’s own real-world easting and northing are not restored to the header offset.
The source: PCD Point Cloud (PCL) (.pcd)
A Point Cloud Library cloud (PCL, Open3D, CloudCompare, ROS), in ascii, binary or LZF-compressed binary: x, y and z with the packed rgb colour or intensity, organized clouds without their empty points, placed by the VIEWPOINT pose, read in chunks and sampled evenly to the device’s point budget.
The target: LAS Point Cloud (.las)
The LiDAR and survey interchange format, with per-point color.
Opens in: CloudCompare, QGIS, ArcGIS, LAStools, PDAL.
Your file never leaves your computer
Both the PCD parser and the LAS writer are JavaScript and WebAssembly running in your own browser tab. There is no upload step, no server-side conversion queue, and no copy of your file anywhere but your machine. That matters for drawings under NDA, for client work, and for anything you would not email to a stranger.

Frequently asked questions
▶Is this PCD to LAS converter free?
Yes. No signup, no watermark, no per-file limit and no paid tier. Innerscene.
▶Is my PCD file uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read with the browser file API and converted in the same tab. Nothing is sent to a server unless you explicitly click Share, which is a separate, opt-in feature.
▶Will my colors and materials survive the LAS export?
LAS carries per-vertex color, which is at least what PCD stores, so the colors come across.
▶Will the LAS open at the right size?
LAS stores an explicit unit. PCD does not, so the size is taken from how the viewer read the file. Check the scale once on import.
▶How large a PCD file can I convert?
Up to 200 MB, and the ceiling adapts to how much memory your device reports. The conversion runs on your own hardware, so a desktop with plenty of RAM will handle more than a phone.
▶Can I convert LAS back to PCD?
Yes, the other direction works too. Bear in mind that anything the first conversion dropped is not restored by converting back. LAS → PCD
▶Which browsers does it work in?
Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android. No plugin and no extension.
