Convert PCD to WRL (Free)

Drop a .pcd file, click Export, download the .wrl. The format color 3-D printing bureaus and older analysis tools still ask for.

Also converts OBJ, GLB, PLY, X3D, glTF, XYZ from the same file.

Runs in your browser. No upload, no signup, nothing to install.

Also from Innerscene: Circadian Lab, a free lighting calculator for room illuminance, melanopic EML, and glare.

Your PCD file is read and converted on your own machine. It is never uploaded.

How to convert PCD to WRL

  1. 1

    Open your .pcd file

Drag it onto the viewer above, or click "Open a PCD File". Files up to 200 MB open directly; the parse runs in a worker so the page stays responsive.

  2. 2

    Click Download WRL

Once the file is open, the Download WRL button sits at the bottom right of the viewer. The Export menu in the toolbar has every other format.

  3. 3

    Download

The .wrl is written in the browser and saved straight to your downloads folder. No queue, no email, no watermark.

What survives the conversion

A file conversion is a translation, and formats do not carry the same things. Here is exactly what moves from PCD into WRL, and what does not.

GeometryKeptpoints are written as triangle meshes.
Colors and materialsKeptWRL carries per-vertex color, which is at least what PCD stores, so the colors come across.
Units and scaleKeptWRL stores an explicit unit. PCD does not, so the size is taken from how the viewer read the file. Check the scale once on import.
Map coordinatesReducedWRL is written in local meters, centered on the data. OBJ, PLY, XYZ, DXF and DWG exports keep the map coordinates.

What the WRL writer emits: VRML97 with an IndexedFaceSet per mesh, IndexedLineSet for linework and PointSet for clouds, classic Material nodes, and per-vertex color where the scene has it. Meters, Y-up, written verbatim.

The source: PCD Point Cloud (PCL) (.pcd)

A Point Cloud Library cloud (PCL, Open3D, CloudCompare, ROS), in ascii, binary or LZF-compressed binary: x, y and z with the packed rgb colour or intensity, organized clouds without their empty points, placed by the VIEWPOINT pose, read in chunks and sampled evenly to the device’s point budget.

The target: VRML97 (.wrl)

The format color 3-D printing bureaus and older analysis tools still ask for.

Opens in: Shapeways and other color print bureaus, MeshLab, Blender, legacy simulation tools.

Your file never leaves your computer

Both the PCD parser and the WRL writer are JavaScript and WebAssembly running in your own browser tab. There is no upload step, no server-side conversion queue, and no copy of your file anywhere but your machine. That matters for drawings under NDA, for client work, and for anything you would not email to a stranger.

▶Will my colors and materials survive the WRL export?

WRL carries per-vertex color, which is at least what PCD stores, so the colors come across.

▶Will the WRL open at the right size?

WRL stores an explicit unit. PCD does not, so the size is taken from how the viewer read the file. Check the scale once on import.

▶How large a PCD file can I convert?
