How to convert SPZ to LAS
- 1
Open your .spz file
Drag it onto the viewer above, or click "Open an SPZ File". Files up to 200 MB open directly; the parse runs in a worker so the page stays responsive.
- 2
Pick LAS Point Cloud in the Export menu
Click Export in the toolbar, then LAS (.las).
- 3
Download
The .las is written in the browser and saved straight to your downloads folder. No queue, no email, no watermark.
What survives the conversion
A file conversion is a translation, and formats do not carry the same things. Here is exactly what moves from SPZ into LAS, and what does not.
| Geometry | Kept | Both formats store points, so the shape transfers directly. |
|---|---|---|
| Colors and materials | Kept | LAS carries per-vertex color, which is at least what SPZ stores, so the colors come across. |
| Units and scale | Kept | LAS stores an explicit unit. SPZ does not, so the size is taken from how the viewer read the file. Check the scale once on import. |
What the LAS writer emits: LAS 1.4, point data record format 2 (XYZ plus RGB), centered on the cloud’s own bounds with a millimeter scale factor. The file’s own real-world easting and northing are not restored to the header offset.
The source: Niantic SPZ Gaussian splat (.spz) (.spz)
The splats of a Niantic .spz capture (Scaniverse, Spark; versions 1 to 4): each one’s centre in its base colour, as a point cloud of the splat centres. Splats are not surfaces, so the conversions are point clouds and pictures.
The target: LAS Point Cloud (.las)
The LiDAR and survey interchange format, with per-point color.
Opens in: CloudCompare, QGIS, ArcGIS, LAStools, PDAL.
Your file never leaves your computer
Both the SPZ parser and the LAS writer are JavaScript and WebAssembly running in your own browser tab. There is no upload step, no server-side conversion queue, and no copy of your file anywhere but your machine. That matters for drawings under NDA, for client work, and for anything you would not email to a stranger.

LAS carries per-vertex color, which is at least what SPZ stores, so the colors come across.
▶Will the LAS open at the right size?
