How to convert DOCX to PDF
- 1
Open your .docx file
Drag it onto the viewer above, or click "Open a DOCX File". Files up to 200 MB open directly; the parse runs in a worker so the page stays responsive.
- 2
Pick PDF in the Export menu
Click Export in the toolbar, then PDF (.pdf).
- 3
Download
The .pdf is written in the browser and saved straight to your downloads folder. No queue, no email, no watermark.
What survives the conversion
A file conversion is a translation, and formats do not carry the same things. Here is exactly what moves from DOCX into PDF, and what does not.
| Pages | Kept | Every page as the reader lays it out, at the document’s own paper size, with headers, footers and footnotes, and with any typing, form values or signatures you added before downloading. |
|---|---|---|
| Text and labels | Kept | Text stays text: it can be selected, searched and copied in any PDF reader. |
| Formatting | Reduced | The fonts embedded are metric-compatible faces (Carlito for Calibri, Caladea for Cambria, Liberation for Arial, Times New Roman and Courier New), so lines break where Word breaks them. Other fonts are drawn in the closest of these, so letter shapes can differ from the original. |
| Tables | Kept | Tables keep their borders, shading, merged cells and column widths, drawn as vector lines and fills. |
| Pictures | Kept | Pictures are embedded in the PDF as PNG images. |
| Viewing | Reduced | The PDF opens page for page in any PDF reader. Hyperlinks show as text but cannot be clicked. |
What the PDF writer emits: The Word reader writes the pages it has laid out as a vector PDF: text as real, selectable text in embedded font subsets, lines, borders and shading as vector paths, and pictures as embedded PNG images, one PDF page per document page at the document’s paper size. Edits, form values and signatures made in the reader are included.
The source: Word Document (.docx, .docm)
The document paginated the way Word paginates it: style cascade, line breaking against real font metrics, tables, headers, footnotes and images.
The target: PDF (.pdf)
The format anyone can open. For submittals, RFIs, markups and email.
Opens in: Any PDF reader, Bluebeam, Acrobat, Illustrator (vector output).
Your file never leaves your computer
Both the DOCX parser and the PDF writer are JavaScript and WebAssembly running in your own browser tab. There is no upload step, no server-side conversion queue, and no copy of your file anywhere but your machine. That matters for drawings under NDA, for client work, and for anything you would not email to a stranger.
