Convert WRL to SVG (Free)

Drop a .wrl file, click Export, download the .svg. Resolution-independent vector art for web pages, documents and further editing.

Also converts STL, OBJ, GLB, PLY, USDZ, 3MF from the same file.

Runs in your browser. No upload, no signup, nothing to install.

How to convert WRL to SVG

  1. 1

    Open your .wrl file

Drag it onto the viewer above, or click "Open a WRL File". Files up to 200 MB open directly; the parse runs in a worker so the page stays responsive.

  2. 2

Pick Scalable Vector Graphics in the Export menu

Click Export in the toolbar, then SVG (.svg).

  3. 3

    Download

The .svg is written in the browser and saved straight to your downloads folder. No queue, no email, no watermark.

What survives the conversion

A file conversion is a translation, and formats do not carry the same things. Here is exactly what moves from WRL into SVG, and what does not.

GeometryReducedThe 3-D model is projected to the current view and written as 2-D paths, with hidden lines removed. It becomes a drawing, not a model.
Colors and materialsReducedWRL can hold per-vertex color and SVG holds one color per object, so materials are flattened to that.
TexturesDroppedSVG does not carry texture images, so a textured model arrives in flat material colors.
Layers and structureDroppedSVG is a single flat body with no layers or named parts. Everything merges into one object. If you need the structure, export to GLB, OBJ, DXF instead.
Units and scaleDroppedSVG stores no unit. Coordinates are written in meters, so set the import unit to meters if the destination asks.

What the SVG writer emits: From a 3-D model: the same visibility pass as the vector PDF, written as SVG paths, with hidden lines clipped. From a drawing: a direct translation of the line work, keeping strokes, fills, gradients, dash patterns, clipping and live text.

The source: VRML (.wrl, .vrml, .wrz)

IndexedFaceSet, IndexedLineSet and PointSet shapes with their materials, including PROTO definitions, Switch and LOD nodes, and gzipped .wrz files.

The target: Scalable Vector Graphics (.svg)

Resolution-independent vector art for web pages, documents and further editing.

Opens in: Illustrator, Inkscape, Figma, any browser.

Your file never leaves your computer

Both the WRL parser and the SVG writer are JavaScript and WebAssembly running in your own browser tab. There is no upload step, no server-side conversion queue, and no copy of your file anywhere but your machine. That matters for drawings under NDA, for client work, and for anything you would not email to a stranger.

Yes. No signup, no watermark, no per-file limit and no paid tier. Innerscene.

Is my WRL file uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read with the browser file API and converted in the same tab. Nothing is sent to a server unless you explicitly click Share, which is a separate, opt-in feature.

Will my colors and materials survive the SVG export?

WRL can hold per-vertex color and SVG holds one color per object, so materials are flattened to that.

Do layers and named parts carry into the SVG file?

SVG is a single flat body with no layers or named parts. Everything merges into one object. If you need the structure, export to GLB, OBJ, DXF instead.

Will the SVG open at the right size?

SVG stores no unit. Coordinates are written in meters, so set the import unit to meters if the destination asks.

How large a WRL file can I convert?

Up to 200 MB, and the ceiling adapts to how much memory your device reports. The conversion runs on your own hardware, so a desktop with plenty of RAM will handle more than a phone.
