How to convert MSG to HTML
- 1
Open your .msg file
Drag it onto the viewer above, or click "Open an MSG File". Files up to 200 MB open directly; the parse runs in a worker so the page stays responsive.
- 2
Pick Self-contained HTML in the Export menu
Click Export in the toolbar, then HTML (.html).
- 3
Download
The .html is written in the browser and saved straight to your downloads folder. No queue, no email, no watermark.
What survives the conversion
A file conversion is a translation, and formats do not carry the same things. Here is exactly what moves from MSG into HTML, and what does not.
| Text and labels | Kept | The subject, sender, recipients and date head the page, above the body as real HTML text that can be searched and copied. |
|---|---|---|
| Formatting | Kept | The body keeps its fonts, colors, tables and layout. Scripts, forms and anything the message would load from the internet are left out. |
| Pictures | Reduced | Pictures sent inside the message are embedded in the page as data. Pictures the message links to online are left out. |
| Attachments | Reduced | Attachments are listed by name in the header; their files are not in the page. Open an attachment in the viewer to convert it on its own. |
What the HTML writer emits: A single .html file holding the data and everything needed to show it. A model or point cloud is embedded as a base64 GLB with a small three.js viewer: orbit, pan, zoom, fit to view and a ground grid. A drawing is embedded as SVG with pan, zoom and a layer list. A workbook becomes HTML tables, one tab per sheet, and a Word document becomes HTML text with its headings, lists, tables and pictures, with no script in the page at all. The page loads nothing from the network and runs no code from the source file.
The source: Outlook Message (.msg)
The message as Outlook saved it: subject, sender, recipients, date and the body (its HTML, including the HTML Outlook keeps inside its rich-text body, with the pictures sent inline), plus every attachment. A model, archive or document attached to it opens in the viewer, and forwarded messages are read too.
The target: Self-contained HTML (.html)
One web page that opens offline in any browser. Send it to anyone: there is no app to install and no account to create.
Opens in: Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox, on desktop, tablet and phone.
Your file never leaves your computer
Both the MSG parser and the HTML writer are JavaScript and WebAssembly running in your own browser tab. There is no upload step, no server-side conversion queue, and no copy of your file anywhere but your machine. That matters for drawings under NDA, for client work, and for anything you would not email to a stranger.
