What survives the conversion
A file conversion is a translation, and formats do not carry the same things. Here is exactly what moves from X3D into STL, and what does not.

What the STL writer emits: Binary STL, one triangle record per face, positions written verbatim in meters.
The source: X3D (.x3d, .x3dv)
X3D written in the classic-VRML syntax, whether the file is named .x3dv or .x3d. The XML profile is a different grammar and is not read; save it as X3D Classic VRML or VRML 2.0 first.
