Convert STEP Files Online (Free)

Why Convert STEP Files?
STEP (ISO 10303) is the standard exchange format for mechanical CAD, but it requires specialized software to open. By converting to a widely-supported 3D format, you can share models with anyone — open them in Blender, Unity, 3ds Max, or any 3D tool without needing SolidWorks, CATIA, or Fusion 360.
Need a model for 3D printing? Export as STL. Sharing with a web viewer or AR app? GLB is the universal choice. Creating documentation? Export a vector PDF of the current view.
How to Convert a STEP File
- 1
Open your STEP file
Click "Open a STEP File" above, or drag and drop your .stp/.step file onto the converter.
- 2
Choose an output format
Click the "Export" button in the toolbar and select GLB, OBJ, STL, or PDF.
- 3
Download the converted file
Your file downloads instantly. The entire conversion runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded to a server.
Output Formats
GLB (glTF Binary)
The universal 3D exchange format. Open in Blender, Unity, Unreal Engine, web-based viewers, AR/VR apps, and Google’s model viewer. Colors are preserved.
OBJ (Wavefront)
One of the most widely supported 3D formats. Import into 3ds Max, Maya, Rhino, Cinema 4D, MeshLab, or virtually any 3D application.
STL (Stereolithography)
The standard for 3D printing. Upload directly to your slicer (Cura, PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio) or a 3D printing service. Also used for CNC machining and FEA simulation.
PDF (Vector Drawing)
Export the current camera view as a clean vector PDF with crisp lines at any zoom. Ideal for presentations, submittals, and print documentation.
Features
STEP to GLB
Export as glTF binary — the universal 3D format for Blender, Unity, web viewers, and AR/VR apps.
STEP to OBJ
Save as Wavefront OBJ for use in 3ds Max, Maya, Rhino, Cinema 4D, and other modeling tools.
STEP to STL
Export a triangulated mesh ready for 3D printing, CNC machining, or FEA simulation.
STEP to PDF
Save the current view as a clean vector PDF — ideal for presentations and construction documents.
No Upload Required
Your file is parsed and converted entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to any server.
Broad Compatibility
Supports AP203, AP214, and AP242 — the protocols used by SolidWorks, CATIA, Inventor, Fusion 360, NX, and Creo.
Per-Part Colors
Converted meshes preserve CAD-assigned colors from the source STEP file.
Free, No Signup
No account, no watermark, no file size limits. Convert as many files as you need.
Drag & Drop
Drop a STEP file anywhere on the converter to load it instantly.
Works Everywhere
Desktop and mobile browsers — Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge. No plugin needed.
Supported STEP Application Protocols
Compatible with STEP files exported from SolidWorks, CATIA, Inventor, Fusion 360, NX, Creo, FreeCAD, and most other CAD systems. Just want to view without converting? Use our free STEP Viewer.
Your Files Stay on Your Computer
Both parsing and conversion run entirely in your browser using WebAssembly-compiled OpenCASCADE. Your STEP file is never uploaded to any server — not for viewing, not for conversion. The exported GLB, OBJ, STL, and PDF files are generated locally and downloaded directly to your device.
If Your STEP File Doesn’t Convert
- 1Slow first load? The converter downloads a ~7.6 MB WebAssembly module on first use. It’s cached after that.
- 2Empty output? Some STEP files contain only wireframe data. Conversion requires B-Rep solid geometry.
- 3Out of memory? Very large assemblies (>100 MB) may exceed browser memory limits. Try exporting a smaller sub-assembly from your CAD tool.
Frequently Asked Questions
▶How do I convert a STEP file to GLB?
Open your STEP file in the viewer, then click the Export button and choose GLB. The converted file will download to your computer. No upload required — everything is processed locally.
▶Can I batch convert multiple STEP files?
Currently, files are converted one at a time. Open each STEP file and export individually.
