Convert PTS to X3D (Free)

Drop a .pts file, click Export, download the .x3d. The XML successor to VRML, still read by CAD and visualization tools that standardized on it.

Also converts OBJ, GLB, PLY, WRL, glTF, XYZ from the same file.

Runs in your browser. No upload, no signup, nothing to install.

Also from Innerscene: Circadian Lab, a free lighting calculator for room illuminance, melanopic EML, and glare.

Your PTS file is read and converted on your own machine. It is never uploaded.

How to convert PTS to X3D

  1. 1

    Open your .pts file

Drag it onto the viewer above, or click "Open a PTS File". Files up to 200 MB open directly; the parse runs in a worker so the page stays responsive.

  2. 2

Pick X3D (XML encoding) in the Export menu

Click Export in the toolbar, then X3D (.x3d).

  3. 3

    Download

The .x3d is written in the browser and saved straight to your downloads folder. No queue, no email, no watermark.

What survives the conversion

A file conversion is a translation, and formats do not carry the same things. Here is exactly what moves from PTS into X3D, and what does not.

GeometryKeptpoints are written as triangle meshes.
Colors and materialsKeptX3D carries per-vertex color, which is at least what PTS stores, so the colors come across.
Units and scaleKeptX3D stores an explicit unit. PTS does not, so the size is taken from how the viewer read the file. Check the scale once on import.
Map coordinatesReducedX3D is written in local meters, centered on the data. OBJ, PLY, XYZ, DXF and DWG exports keep the map coordinates.

What the X3D writer emits: X3D 3.3, XML encoding, with one Shape per mesh: IndexedFaceSet for triangles, IndexedLineSet for lines and PointSet for clouds, with Material and per-vertex Color nodes. Converted to meters, Y-up.

The source: Text Point Cloud (PTS / PTX / XYZ) (.pts, .ptx, .xyz)

Leica PTS and PTX scans and XYZ point lists, with RGB or intensity when the file carries it, read in a stream and sampled evenly to the device’s point budget, so multi-gigabyte scans open too.

The target: X3D (XML encoding) (.x3d)

The XML successor to VRML, still read by CAD and visualization tools that standardized on it.

Opens in: InstantReality, View3dscene, BS Contact, MeshLab.

Your file never leaves your computer

Both the PTS parser and the X3D writer are JavaScript and WebAssembly running in your own browser tab. There is no upload step, no server-side conversion queue, and no copy of your file anywhere but your machine. That matters for drawings under NDA, for client work, and for anything you would not email to a stranger.

Free to Use, No Signup

There are no accounts and no watermarks on this converter. If it saved you time, the one thing we ask is a mention: a post, a link from your blog or course page, or a reply to someone asking how to open a file.

Frequently asked questions

▶Is this PTS to X3D converter free?

Yes. No signup, no watermark, no per-file limit and no paid tier. Innerscene.

▶Is my PTS file uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read with the browser file API and converted in the same tab. Nothing is sent to a server unless you explicitly click Share, which is a separate, opt-in feature.

▶Will my colors and materials survive the X3D export?

X3D carries per-vertex color, which is at least what PTS stores, so the colors come across.

▶Will the X3D open at the right size?

X3D stores an explicit unit. PTS does not, so the size is taken from how the viewer read the file. Check the scale once on import.

▶How large a PTS file can I convert?

Up to 200 MB, and the ceiling adapts to how much memory your device reports. The conversion runs on your own hardware, so a desktop with plenty of RAM will handle more than a phone.

▶Can I convert X3D back to PTS?

Not here. We read PTS and write X3D, but not the reverse. the universal 3D viewer

▶Which browsers does it work in?

Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android. No plugin and no extension.
